By that information supplied for your PC it sounds about right for lowest setting graphics. I am predicting you have around 10-12 FPS.
Mines AMD A6-1800, Radeon HD 8280 and get like at max 14 FPS on lowest setting and its just a wee higher than your specs.
terrible! =( didn’t know I need to pay that much for a laptop to be able to play guild wars 2!
what to do now? =(
btw = I played TES Oblivion on my old laptop with no problem! it looked gr8!

The E2-1800 is a very low end dual core processor designed to compete with an Intel Atom CPU, the kind found in netbooks. It’s 40% slower than the Turion II M500. GW2 really needs a fast CPU.
The HD 7340 is a little bit better than the HD 4330 but not by a margin significant enough to notice.
You basically replaced your old laptop with a netbook as big as a laptop.

You can’t compare TES Oblivion with Gw2…. complete different games, and gw2 is so heavy because of all the realtime events going on in the game (i think)
Laptops aren’t great anyway to play games. Unless you buy a custom one like MSI or Razer… In any case, it will cost more than a regular laptop. (Or even more than a pretty hardcore desktop pc)
Seems like a kittenty choise for new pc! Will try to return it! =)
Don’t know how a 3 year old laptop (for similiar price!) can have a better cpu than a new one!
I have to see if I can return it..
thanks guys!
Man, intall Windows 7… windows 8 is bad for gw2…
Man, intall Windows 7… windows 8 is bad for gw2…
Its a combo of:
1.) The “Metro” UI – I stopped counting how many times an errant pointer movement swaps my game screen back to the bloody desktop. 8.1 is supposedly going to pop a fix on that.
2.) Windows 8 does seem to bash your RAM more than its predecessor.
As for the OP: I hate to say it, but with what most places charge for an E-series machine, you really should’ve put out the extra ~$100 for an A8. Have one myself, and can go up to 35-40 FPS at times on Medium settings. Just leave Shadows/Reflections on Low – those boys eat a decent chunk of yer FPS.
Also, Lion’s Arch and WvW tend to crush your framerate down, so keep an eye out, and tweak when necessary.

Depending on your budget and what their prices are, common processors to game on are:
AMD: FX-8300/FX-8320/FX-8350
Intel: i5-4670K/i7-4770K
If you’re doing just gaming and not video/audio encoding or streaming what you play, then the i5 is suitable. Otherwise, consider getting one of the AMD solutions or the i7.

Well, I’ve already given a general idea for what processor you should get. As for a GPU, I need to ask a few questions to get a better idea what is best for you.
What resolution do you play at (do you have a monitor)?
What graphic settings do you want to play at (low/med/high/mix)?
What FPS do you want to get with the aforementioned settings?
What is your total budget for the computer?

Should have done more research. The INFO is out there for what CPU/GPU to get for what games. The E# Series from AMD are garbage for games. You needed to start with an AMD Vision APU with a dedicated GPU built into the Laptop (Like for example, a HP DV6z-6c00 which has a A6-3550 and a HD7690M, and you can get them on Ebay used/refurbed for 350 Shipped in MOST cases, if not cheaper). But to Properly Play GW2 you really also need a Quad Core (NOT INCLUDING intels HT) else the game just Bottle necks terribly, even with a very high end GPU.

Does GW2 run well on any lappy? My PC is a pretty high specc’d desktop and can’t really handle the game with any authority.

I feel like you answered your question with your own sentence. If you desktop is high end and can’t handle the game, what makes you think a laptop would fare out any better? Since you know, laptops are less powerful machines typically when compared to recent desktops.
Your definition of ‘well’ can be interpreted in many ways, but for my definition of well, there is no laptop worth getting that can play this game reasonably.

Well, there are high-end lappy’s out there such as Alienware ones – my question came from the perspective that could one of these high specc’d lappy’s run the game? I.e. with a smooth FPS with quite a few option turned to high or ulta.

Depends on the definition of smooth, some people want that 60FPS and only consider that smooth, others don’t care and consider 30FPS as smooth. Then, you get people like me that think something in between is what is smooth.
It also depends what areas of the game we’re talking about, the most CPU demanding ones, large WvW battles and large dynamic events, no. There is no MOBILE CPU that will guarantee 30FPS in WvW. Now, there are laptops out there with CPUs that aren’t mobile and actual desktop CPUs in a laptop chassis. If you can amply cool those CPUs and dare I say, overclock them as well, then yes. There are laptops out there that might be able to play the game ‘smoothly’.
