Can't start game update on winXP x64 sp2
Change your compatibility mode and see if that works?
If not, client repair: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments#-repair

No offense but XP-64 never had good driver support for gaming and XP is not
beeing supportet by MS anyway .. so maybe you should really think about
upgrading from that ancient system.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
1. I don’t like win7 or higher, so I don’t use it.
2. I don’t care if xp is out of service @microsoft, I use it only to game now and then, while working (and sometimes gaming) at linux desktop (and gw2 doesn’t support linux afaik).
3. I see that gw2 is supposed to run on winXP SP2 and higher, and yes, I got winXP SP2 (x64 one).
4. GW ran just fine on the very same computer (and same OS) like 1 year ago and now it doesn’t.
Now I want to check if it’s still working and this is some kind of bug or I have to say full-time farewell to gw2 and go enjoy some other games or I still can play something I’ve paid for.
To say it short - opinion about OS I use is kinda offtopic here.
Back on topic
Running GW2 with -repair didn’t helped. Running in "emulate 32-bit xp" mode didn’t helped. Loading client and launching it clean gave same error. I’ve attached the screenshot.
I’m interested to know if this game will run on my computer/OS or I have to ditch it. And if so - maybe it’s a good idea to clarify things @ http://buy.guildwars2.com/store/gw2/en_IE/html/pbPage.buyguildwars2

Go to your icon properties for GW2. Add -windowed at the end. (with a space between) Go into game and just select fullscreen windowed, not your native resolution. This should get you playing.
They BADLY broke it with a patch a few weeks ago and no word on a fix.
Tried once more. I didn’t get to the point where I choose resolution or whatever.
Looks like I’m getting /bin/CoherentUI_Host.exe file with size 36’143’096 filled with 0×00 instead of actual data. And when game tries to launch it – it fails for obvious reason…
Are you running Gw2Setup.exe? Your previous screenshot shows GW2 as being installed to c:\Temp\. If you’re running Gw2Setup.exe, rename it to Gw2.exe and place it where you’d like to install the game.
I tried installing GW2 on XPx64 and received the same error involving CoherentUI_Host.exe after first encountering a disk I/O error. Open the folder where Gw2.exe is located and open the bin folder. Delete CoherentUI_Host.exe then run Gw2.exe to get it to redownload that file.
<snip incessent whining>

Windows XP and XP 64 are two very different things. While it doesn’t explicitly state XP 64 is NOT compatible the OS itself is notoriously difficult to work with due to poor driver support and rudimentary WOW64 subsystem. You can run it in a modern windows/mac system, try running it through wine, or deal with the fact that you’re trying to play on an unsupported platform.

You can try this (from an older thread) :

Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Another try after getting GW2 reinstalled with “Gw2.exe -nopatchui” command.
Game fails to write out “bin\CoherentUI_Host.exe” file.
You can locate Game dump error log in file attached.
As a workaround – can I somehow get this file straight from support to put it there by hand? Sending it via email or putting somewhere on the web will be ok for me.

Delete bin/CoherentUI_Host.exe and run Gw2.exe again. It should redownload that one file without causing the I/O error that corrupted it.

-nopatchui just makes the launcher invisible. It doesn’t actually change anything.
Have you tryed this :
——————————————————————————————————-
Create the folder C:\users
and inside that create a folder, % username % <- no spaces(Stupid Forum), so that your currently installed username gets populated for the folder name.
now go and find “\??\C:\User\Docume~1\Locals~1\Temp\bin\CoherentUI.exe” under your docs and settings profile, and move it to the correct folder location under the new c:\users\%username%\appdata\localdata\temp\bin\
restart the game and see if that helps. If not, then you are stuck needing a new OS.

Making c:\users\% username %\ helped… Well, this is really weird since I have temp and tmp variables redefined… Well, thanks to you, Beldin!
P.S.: Wtf happened to Lion’s Arch… Left you just for a few months and… Where is the life going nowadays?
