Guild Wars 2

So yesterday i began to get the black screen problem where, after i click “Play” on the launcher, it goes straight to a black screen and i cant ALT-Tab out of it or close the window without using the task manager. I looked and found several solutions for mac users (I am on windows) and one that required me to do something with the GW@.exe file, but i do not seem to have it. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I keep seeing those things suggested, but I have no idea what many of them mean nor how to do them. The game was working fine after the patch, until yesterday. Now I can’t even get to the character selection screen. And I do not have the GW2.exe file that was suggested to use to repair the client

Two distinct things causing blackscreens
1) network issues 2)hardware/driver issue

Sounds like your graphic card is overheating/dying, to start check its temperature
(See Part 4.1 for tools) Example HwINFO will let you monitor many aspects of your hardware such as checking the temperature of the GPU.

Specifically what parts don’t you understand? Be more specific. Going to have to try things until you find the cause.

I downloaded the HwINFO and played another MMO for about 30 mins on the highest graphics setting. The only difference is that the Core0 and Core1 clocks bounce between 797-2292 MHz and the ratio between 8.00x-23.00x (not sure what those mean). The CPU status VID changes from .75-1.15V. Also, the GPU continuously changes between 650-800 or 850 MHz. So could it still be my graphics card when I am still able to play another MMO but not even start GW2?

As for the parts that I don’t understand (I’m not very tech savy), I dont know how to do these or what they mean/do:
-Disable router SPI
-Disable IGMP proxying
-Disable factory overclock and/or underclock the GPU

from most of the posts i read, none of these helped, but i am still willing to try if I can know how to do them. Will doing any of these put my computer at risk (virus, overheating, etc)?

And if it helps at all, when I do CTRL-ALT-DELETE when I am stuck at the black screen, the task manager says that Guild Wars 2 is not responding. And to clarify, I am not getting the black screen after playing the game for a little bit, but right after I hit the “Play” button in the launcher.

It’s some network thing. I was able to fix the problem by skipping the router and hooking my modem directly to the computer. Pretty much the worst possible solution, but it’s an ANet problem. Nothing I can do about it (no I’m not going to buy a different router to fix a problem that shouldn’t be happening).

Just started playing again on Friday.

is anyone else experiencing this or has experienced this that might have a solution?

im having the same problem where i can start up the game but then i just get a blackscreen with the cursor of gw2 (somtimes even without)
but it just freezes there. when i go to the taskmanager it says that the game is not responding. ive had this problem since the big patch where they implemented the frost and flame thing with the refugies. also my modem is directly in connection with my pc so its not a good fix either :S.

^that would be much appreciated! I have a ticket in too but have yet to hear back. Itching to get back into the gameX)

I put a ticket in with the same issue. I’ve never had it on the play screen, but it happened twice in a row on character select. I also get it randomly through out gaming whether 10 minutes into play or 2 hours.

The support came back and asked me to plug it in with ethernet then run another test, I don’t have a long enough ethernet cable… so… guess I’m SOL

I’m going to try switching my router firmware to default or dd-wrt (currently using Tomato) and see if that makes a difference.

Okay, so now when I attempt to repair the client, it goes through 226,000 files while it is “Verifying Archive”. When it gets down to 8 files left, it stops, waits a minute or two, and gives me an error box. The results include a huge list of info, but it starts with:

how did you run a repair? im having the EXACT issue and have no fix for it. I thought it was an issue with my dual monitor setup but when i switched back to single it kept doing it. I could only HOPE its a graphics card issue cuz i have a replacement sitting right next to me that ive been meaning to switch out, however if its something more then i think im screwed. I play other games like Swtor, LoL, Eve online on full screen with NO issues, but this one is causing me a lot of grief. When or if you find a solution please inform me!
