Q:
Can you ACTUALLY play on a Mac?
Yeah, I’m on an iMac Mid-2011 with only i3 and I’m capable of running it!
Great to here.
I’m downloading it now.
Your Intel graphics card is going to be the greatest drawback for playing GW2.
I’m aware of that.
Hoping that it will still run.
If not I’m going to WoW.
I just got my iMac 27 inch and it’s playing like a dream, far better than my old Windows PC. I’m getting between 60-95 FPS, in extremely intensive areas it’s usually kitten.
Spec =
3.4GHz Intel Core i5
16GB Ram
500gb Flash Drive
NCIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB
Before I got it I read in a lot of places that Mac on GW2 was awful, it definitely is not.
@Ahriman – GW2 on OSX is awful unless you have a very new machine with a fusion drive etc. Running on anything from 2013 or earlier pretty much limits you to below 25FPS.
I’ll say it runs and looks better on my macbook than for my friends on their PCs. But it is a relatively new macbook. :S
Only thing holding me back is the Intel based graphics.

You have a build worth around $2,500/$3,000 if purchased from the Apple website. Sorry, but the majority of mac players don’t have computers that powerful. It definitely is still awful.
It looks like no one addressed your Magic Mouse question:
It’s not that the Apple mouse is “bad” or anything, but they don’t lend themselves well to gaming. In addition to not having extra buttons that gamers seem to favor, the biggest problem is that in order to right-click, you need to lift your LMB finger completely off of the mouse, or it registers as a left-click. I’m pretty certain one could get used to it, but it seems far from optimal to me.
Hope this helps!

As for the magic mouse, this comment is pretty spot on. I love my magic mouse for when I’m doing anything but gaming – I prefer the physical right mouse button and a physical scroll. However, for everything else the mouse is great. If you have the money, try and get some rechargeable batteries too.
new slim iMac owners, how about heating? my older iMac GPU heats up to 80, cpu ±60 celsius when I run Gw2. Does cooling works well on slim iMacs?
I have a new iMac 27. My GPU and CPU both run in the 80’s Celsius and sometimes hit the 90’s. This is with all of the GW2 graphic settings on high. The CPU seems to heat up slightly more than the GPU.
I bought Temperature Gauge Pro and set it to auto boost the fan speed when any sensor gets into the 80’s. It keeps everything now in the upper 70’s. I think Apple likes to keep the iMac’s quiet by not increasing the fan speed very much. At max you can hear the fans but it’s not bad where normally you can’t hear them at all. I don’t feel any hot spots on the back of the computer except where the fan exhaust is.
Guild Wars 2 suffers performance issues on many macs. They differ depending on the hardware itself, however. Older macs have serious issues, meanwhile newer ones are slightly better at handling the client.
The whole issue is that the client uses a wrapper to work, and it’s not natively written. If you expect a product of the same quality that you receive when playing the game on Windows then you are mistaken.
Anyway, the game is playable most of the time by taking out some options and setting the graphics to the lowest setting possible. Newer macs can survive higher settings and different options, but subpar to running it under Windows.
Bottom line, it’s not worth it. Better that you play the game on Windows, or not at all, whilst hoping some magical day comes and something good happens which fixes the OS X client completely.

No problems at all on my late 2012 slim iMac. I don’t actively monitor the temps, but when they do climb, the normally silent cooler actually becomes audible, so I have a rough idea how often the system really heats up. The cooler kicks in about a quarter of the time, runs for a few minutes, then goes quiet again. I’ve never had it run for an extended amount of time.

This is not true whatsoever. I play with the exact specs listed above: Dual Core i7, Intel HD Graphics, 13" MBPr, etc. My MacBook runs the game at 30-35FPS on Medium Settings in WvE and PvP. The game is definitely worth playing. It still looks great too. Just don’t expect great performance in WvW. Is WvW playable? Well of course, but kind of spotty when you near a large zerg.
