Since the new update, my computer can no longer handle the game. No lag or anything, my fps is actually higher than usual, 60 instead of 45ish, just overheating massively. While replaying the story for achieves my cpu hit 86’C. I’ve never had this problem with my cpu before, all my settings are as low as possible, my computer is set up pretty much just for guild wars and it usually handles whatever it throws at me. Anyone else having this issue?

Hardware overheats due to failing cooling components, not software.

and depending on your CPU, 86C could be perfectly normal (Haswell for example).

So start by listing your system specs, and is it a laptop or desktop?

Desktop: 4790k@4.6ghz-1.25v, AMD 295×2, 32GB 1866CL10 RAM, 850Evo 500GB SSD
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD

it’s a laptop, about a year and a half old, windows 8.1
CPU
Intel Core i5 3210M @ 2.50GHz 44 °C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
RAM
6.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. NP350V5C-A0EUK (SOCKET 0) 46 °C
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1366×768@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Samsung)
Storage
698GB Seagate ST750LM022 HN-M750MBB (SATA) 35 °C

The overheating only happens while im running guild wars. As soon as i turn it off, it drops about 20 degrees.

yea, kinda figured it was a laptop. Laptops run hotter then desktops, and yours is no exception.

86C does seem a bit hot, but that could be due to your power profile settings too.
is the laptop an HP? if not, does your Manufacturer supply a thermal application that controls the CPU clock and Fan speeds?

For HP its called CoolSense, and when gaming you should put the application on ‘coolest’ mode. if I run mine on performance, I will also get to 86c-90c while gaming, On coolest mode i dont go above 75c.

Heavily taxing software can identify an existing hardware thermal issue, but it cannot cause one to develop. Overheating is 100% hardware / systems settings / Environmental issue ONLY.

If it’s only a hardware issue then why is the problem only happening with guild wars, and only since yesterday? It doesn’t make sense. And I’ve spoken to guild members who are having similar issues since yesterday. My laptop is samsung so I will look for any fan control software. Thanks for the suggestion.

Run this for a few minutes while monitoring temperatures (a handy tool I use for stress testing) :

use MSI afterburner to limit your FPS to 40.

I did that and it substantially reduced the load on my gpu and in turn brought the temps/fan speed down

Thanks for all your suggestions, dry top still seems to be causing me issues but i reduced my maximum processor state to 95% and that seems to keep the temp low in all other areas. Somehow it had set itself to 100%. As my laptop has been acting strangely anyway for 6-7 months i will be getting a man in to look at it soon as well. Again thank you for your suggestions and help
