Guild Wars 2

Hello. I’ve been playing this game without toubles untill this day. When I run GW2 and click ‘play’ my screen becomes black and pointer changes into white hand. Sometimes I’m able to hear music in background, sometimes I’m not.

I’ve done some research and I’ve found many threads about it. Sadly – none of them contains a solution.

Settings are ok.

It’s not free space problem – my disc with GW2 has 279GB free space.

My graphic card’s (weak but has worked till now) drives are up to date. So are directX.

I have no idea what could that be (however it’s not a suprise, I’m pretty bad at computer things).

Run check disk on your hard drive, it may be starting to fail.

Let us know how this goes, then we’ll see if we need to look at anything else next.

However, you are right above min specs, so it could be a couple different things.

Tried ‘check disk’. Everything is ok. So it’s not a problem.

Still black screen.

This is a windows error, it’s possible to be related to your memory. You do only have 2 gb and on other threads, we’re establishing issues with 32bit operating systems.

It’s also possible that it is caused by a corrupted .dat file. You could try to run a client repair next (easy fix if it is the problem). Your post above did not state if you tried this or not.

If this doesn’t fix it, could you post a game advisor report?

What causes error 1450 ?

The 1450 error may be caused by windows system files damage. The corrupted windows system files entries can be a real threat to the well being of your computer.

There can be many events which may have resulted in the system files errors. An incomplete installation, an incomplete uninstall, improper deletion of applications or hardware. It can also be caused if your computer is recovered from a virus or adware/spyware attack or by an improper shutdown of the computer. It’s possible you may need to redownload the gw2.dat file. To do this, rename the gw2.dat file to gw2.old then open the client and let the download begin.

Once this is completed, make a copy of the new gw2.dat file and store it externally if possible (external harddrive, large capacity jump drive), it’s ~17.5gb. You’ll need this pristine file later if you have this again or need to reinstall (saves the download). Also, while downloading, disable any energy saver features or screen lock features until this download s complete, we don’t want your hard disk stopping or losing the download to a sleep feature or having to re-login.

That’s the only thing I can think of other than verifying you have the latest version of direct x, but that is something different, I don’t think it caused this issue.

At this point, I’m hoping another person could have a peek and give their opinions.

But please try to redownload the .dat file as described and let me know how you go.

I’ve done what you said but nothing changed.

Then I read another thread where some AN Tech Supporter suggested deleting Local.dat file. It helped!

Oh odd, didn’t realise local.dat could cause THAT error! I’ll keep that in mind. Glad you found your problem with such an easy fix.

Sadly, I thought you had the crash associated with black screen; since they may be completely unrelated, please keep tabs on any other crashes you get in the future. There may still be something hiding in there.
