China and its Reputation
Hi Reinth.
ArenaNet/NCsoft won’t ban you just because you’re playing from China. Not all gold sellers are in China but admittedly there’s a bad rep from this part of the globe when it comes to this. Your tone comes out a little discriminative towards Chinese citizens. I work in China, I’m not Chinese, but netizens who play online games that were born and live here are surely not all doing RMT.
I’m with ArenaNet for more than 7 years now, and most of that time I’ve been playing from China. I was inadvertently banned some times but I’ve always been able to get my account back. Bans usually happened to me when there was a big change in staff policing NCsoft games (I keep asking them to add a field in their database so that there’s a mention about specific players to new staff). I haven’t been banned in GW2 so far (it wasn’t that frequent in GW1 anyway) and I hope it continues that way.
Here’s what I do to keep myself out of trouble:
- Be careful with third-party software you may use.
- Don’t place your characters in auto-attack while you’re afk.
- Don’t create a macro in your gaming keyboard that would allow many different skills to be activated in one go.
- Don’t keep changing proxy servers too much and too fast.
- Don’t join a farming crowd that might be made out of bots (same profession, with names like “jkjkj”, and doing the same area over and over again).
- Don’t obsessively farm the same area for a long period of time since you might be mistaken as a bot.
- Don’t trade with gold sellers, don’t contact them for any reason, and report any mail you get from them.
- Don’t take advantage of exploits and report any you may find.
- Don’t grief other players.
- Don’t swear or type inappropriate remarks.
- Don’t create characters with inappropriate names.
- Don’t keep ignoring a whisper or a direct communication to you.
- Join a good guild.
- Be polite to support if you actually get banned.
Cheers.

Thank you for enlightening things for me Amon. Yeah I think I am definitely aware of stuffs that would endanger my account. Once again thank you and I believe there are other players who are just trying to enjoy the game from Mainland China as well. Good information =)
Cool
so actually there are more people like me, living in China. I got suspended, mostly, I think, for one of the reasons Amon mentioned. I think I wasn’t careful enough not to switch proxy servers too much. I use Battleping, excellent service, but well… I was greedy to try to find the BEST BEST BEST connection, in order to get the best experience on my gaming without any single spot of lag. So yeap, at the end… it seems I got suspended because at 3:40am (China) my Battleping got disconnected for some reason and automaticly went through my chinese DNS ip, and BANG… I received the nightmare message, and as well the email, which I check and effectively it was my own ip… so I can imagine them looking at all my connections from USA and then all of the sudden “CHINA” it is like a horror movie hahaha
Remember Reinth to follow Amon’s advice, you can use VPNs as support people have said, but just be careful just use one server, don’t be greedy
Anyways I hope I get unsuspended soon… exactly 3 days of waiting T_T
