So for the past month my gw2 client has been crashing at random intervals (sometimes 10 minutes in, sometimes an hour) and each time it does this my game minimizes, it tells me a serious error has occurred (error reporter) but I can still play GW2 just fine, but the sound completely cuts out. I get the same error details every time. The report is attached to this post.

This happens constantly, I’ve re-installed completely, run the gw2 repair, I’ve double checked my ram (8gb) and psu and I cannot for the life of me figure out why it crashes so often. It doesn’t correlate with any intense graphical stress either, I can be standing still with 0 entities around and it can still crash.
In case it helps, my computer specs are:

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Intel® Core™ i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz
8.00 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570

If it wasn’t for the fact that my game still sort of runs (so I can finish whatever dungeon I was running before the crash) I don’t think I’d be very tolerant of this :P

EDIT: Attached my ArenaNet.log file as well.

Hey there,

I’d advise creating a support ticket from this issue as we may need to request some more diagnostic information in order to narrow down the cause of the issue. Unfortunately the crash log doesn’t give us enough information to go off of, and the ArenaNet.log file is from 2012.

You can submit a ticket using the following link:

Thanks for the reply! I submitted a ticket.
Is there any way for me to update said .log file to help out with information about this? I uninstalled/reinstalled gw2 yesterday so I assumed every file would be up to date. Whoops.

Just as an update to this thread: The crashing problem was fixed by doing two things:

One: adjusting my CPU’s power settings, as the i5-2500k I have tends to run at faster than intended speeds.
Steps on how to adjust CPU power settings are as follows:

1. Go into Power options (Control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options) and click “Change plan settings” near your plan
2. Then click on “Change advanced power settings.”
3. Scroll down to “Processor power management” and expand it.
4. Expand “Maximum processor state” and modify the setting to 99%. Be sure to also set the minimum processor state to something below the maximum. I recommend 5%.
5.Then simply click “Apply” and “OK.”

Two: I also went into my motherboard’s BIOS settings and disabled any settings that would increase the memory clock (in this case, returning the default setting to “normal” instead of “performance”). This will probably vary from person to person and your motherboard may not have an option for this, but it’s worth checking out.

I’m certain the issue was caused by the GW2 client not responding well to any overclocking/simulated overclocking that occured, as I have had 0 crashes in the past WEEK after doing this.

I hope this helps.

“I’m certain the issue was caused by the GW2 client not responding well to any overclocking/simulated overclocking that occured, as I have had 0 crashes in the past WEEK after doing this.”

It’s not that. It’s that your system was unstable and GW2 just happened to stress it enough to cause crashes.

I’m glad you have resolved the issue though.
