Hi Roars,
First, I would like for you to navigate to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and delete the local.dat file. Next, please try the following to repair your Guild Wars 2 installation:
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.
Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”
6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
7. Right-click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” and select “Run as Administrator.”
Allow the repair to run and once completed, “Right-click” “GW2.exe” or your Guild Wars 2 Shortcut and select “Run as Administrator.”
Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, I had done the repair before but hadn’t tried deleting the local.dat
I am trying it now, will tell you how it goes
Thanks,
Roars
hmm it got to about 133,045 files then crashed during the verifying, doing the serious error thing
I have a similiar problem. When I press play the game won’t load, instead it asks me to wait.
I did the repairing, it worked first for one time but now I can’t get the game working even as an administrator.
Edit: Seems to work now, after restarting the game about 100 times.

Hmm, since the end of April update I cant launch the game anymore. Ive tried following the steps above. After downloading the near 250,000 files it still not fixed.
The second I press the play button on the launcher the program stops responding. Any ideas?

I’ll try this solve now, and I waiting for “Verifying…”, I hope this will work.
Ashley – for what it’s worth, I’ve tried to follow your tips below because I’ve been having significant crashes since the most recent patch, and I can’t even run the repair tool; after clicking “Run as Administrator”, the game tries to open and then immediately crashes closed.
My game still crash! Why? I don’t understand whats going on! Do something!
Wolf – someone in another thread made the suggestion to me to go do an NCSoft Game Advisor test. It might be worth a shot if you haven’t done one already.
Now I’m trying to test.
Thank you.
Edit: I tested my game, but does not look for any damage.

Thanks. This really helped.
I can’t get into the client now either so i have been looking for the gw2.exe folder.
But i cant find it, I am guessing it has been removed or something is there a place i can retrieve it. or is there an other solution?
Same issues. Constantly crashing now, i can’t even play it anymore and its the only game i play Fix this Anet. Roll back your last patch it kittened us!
any chance of this code getting fixed soon? having your computer crash and being forced to run repairs on the client everyday is a chore and detracts from the overall game experience.

This is a REALLY old post and any Mac issues should be taken up in their own forum (this one is really for PC issues). The Mac client has it’s own forum as it’s basically still Beta software.

Ashley, this is the post of the year! I just tried this, and it fixed the error that wouldn’t let me start up GW2 after the new patch. Glad I found this.
I cannot change the Target box….Why ???what can i do?help plz
Hi Malliotis.6431,
Did you remember to create the shortcut link in step 2 first? make sure its the shortcut that you are editing and not the GW2.exe. You cannot change the target of the executable

Yes i remember it but……i’m still trying to fix it
I tried doing the repair and delte the local.dat file with no luck.
Then I found someone suggesting to change the DNS server address to 8, 8,8,8 and the alt address to 8, 8, 4, 4 and now my client works fine.
