My friend have 11 Mbps internet connection and highest download speed was 350 Kbps. All because download files are small. So stupid from developers. You should make large files for downloading and then unpack/extract via install or something.
Again this is stupid. He begin downloading in 17h and now its 00h and he is on 50%. Stupid!

I’m sitting on a 1.5Mbps T1 Line at my house (Because I live in a rural area -woot!) with a max download speed of 190Kbps. Your argument is invalid

I pay 10x more than the average person does for high speed, but I have the best latency in the world 10-30ms. I hate it when someone complains about how slow their internet connection is.

The friend here, first of @ Veeber, yes I’m sure, i’ve got FTTH DSL 15/20mbit/s link, and in average my download speeds are about 1.5mbps, considering that the server from what I’m downloading has enough bandwidth… But the problem here isn’t that gw2 server from which download is going does not have enough bandwidth, the problem is that their download client is downloading massive amount of small files few hundred kb’s each, and for each of such files new connection needs to be negotiated, transaction completed, closed, and than on to the new file.
That is why most of downloads or download clients compress the files for download into bigger archives, because when you are downloading a big file it is only one request, negotiation, transaction and close to put it simply, and the whole transaction part is taking longer allowing your network bandwidth/speed to be utilized better, meaning higher speeds (you can’t actually get 1.5mb/s speed on a 300kb file can you)

@HCProfessionals: you apparently got no idea what we are talking about here, your connection as you say is 1.5mbit/s which means if you divide 1.5 with 8 to get mb/s, is 0.1875 mb/s which is yours 190kb/s and that is your max speed, and its normal you’re maxing out because files that you are downloading are most likely larger than 190kb, but I’ve got 1.5 mb/s (thats megabyte per second, not megabit per second) and i can’t max that out with few hundred kb files (read above)

Anyway to shorten this, what I think they need to do with their download manager is either replace it with p2p one or simply create bigger files by making archives, so that is downloaded and than installer can extract it on your computer side and place the files where they need to be, it is that simple.
Currently as it is is ridiculous, it would be ok if it would be one time thing when you first install the game, but think of new updates, there will likely be some large updates, few hundred mb ones, and downloading such for an hour instead of for few minutes really isn’t fun or practical, and can be solved easily.
