When I load the client it downloads patches (if any available) then “initializes”. After that the client minimizes and hangs indefinitely. I cant access the log in screen. I do not get an error message. When I try to maximize the client it does nothing. The client is completely unresponsive. It will not maximize and will not close. I need to close it via the task manager. When i run task manager it does NOT appear as “not responding”. It is using approx 30 – 35% of my CPU. 186.9 MB of memory, 0% of my disk, and it is intermittently using 0.1 Mbps of my network.

I have power cycled my modem multiple times i do not have a connection issue (my internet works for everything else). I have not installed any new programs in the last week.

I have tried deleting my local.dat file but that did not work.
I tried repairing the gw2.exe file, that didnt work either.

Anyone else having this issue? Its the long weekend and i want to guild wars……….

My game client has similar symptoms as yours. Although, it “initializes” fine but the progress completely stops when the launcher has to start downloading. Therefore, the game client won’t let me play and it’s been like this ever since I put the HoT upgrade CD into my computer’s driver.. It has been a week since I last played Guild Wars2 and I have almost given up on it.

Update: still cant log in.

I looked in the following folder

C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2

and found that a corrupt-xxxxxxx.dat file created every time i try to log in.

below is a small snip of my corruptArchive.log (i tried posting the whole thing but the pages crashes…go figure)

If anyone can interpret that suggest a fix that would be awesome

Update: got a response from ANET (see below)

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Guild Wars 2 Technical Support.

Please try running Guild Wars 2 in a Window. This should allow the game to bypass whatever resolution was picked and from there, you can reset it to full screen in the correct resolution. To do this:

First, please navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder. By default, this will be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.

Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Windowed.”
Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
Edit the “Target” line to include -windowed at the end. Note: Please make sure -windowed is outside of the quotes -- Correctly Formatted Example: " C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe" -windowed -- Incorrectly Formatted Example: " C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -windowed "
Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try Step 5 again.

Once completed, try starting Guild Wars 2 again by using this new shortcut.

Please let us know the results of this test at your earliest convenience.

Regards,
