Guild Wars 2

Downloaded the entire client via launcher. No interruptions in internet service. Noticed that there’s no files in My Documents related to GW2 (that means there’s no local.dat to delete, as I’ve seen other threads mentioning this as something that can help). The Program Files (x86) location has everything I think is supposed to be in it.

It says the installation is complete. I enter all my credentials that it asks for (email/password) then press play. I see the client window for a split second then the game self-terminates.

Firewall and Anti-virus is NOT blocking the directory.

I’ve done client repair, client diagnostic, and client verify. None of these worked. The issue persists.

Admin rights were granted.

Nothing in the folder is read-only.

The x86 files are the only files I have. Nothing in AppData is anything GW2 related.

The issue is NOT a black screen issue.

Launching the game in windowed mode still resulted in the same self-termination.

I searched Google and the forums far and wide to see what I could do but no solutions came up to this.

I am also not receiving any error reports when the game terminates itself.

I don’t think any of this matters but here are my computer specs:

Windows 8.1
Intel i5 4200M 2.5GHz
6 Gigs RAM
Nvidia GeForce GT755M (2gb RAM)

Everything the game asked for checks out.

What do I have to do to get this game running? I’ve had technical troubles in the past such as the Download Failed issue (which I fixed), which was over a year ago, but now that I want to get back into GW2 I get this.

The default location of Local.dat is %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat

Since you’re on a laptop, I’m assuming you also have an integrated GPU? Disable it, or if it’s an option, specify which one to use.

You can try forcing windowed mode using Gw2.exe -windowed

If you’ve rarely done it, update your graphics drivers.

As I’ve said there is nothing in AppData referring to GW2. I know what it’s supposed to look like but it’s not there at all.

I’ve already tried forcing windowed mode.

Apparently now the repair command crashes too.

NVIDIA GeForce GT755M is not an integrated graphics card.

Some laptops have both an integrated and dedicated GPU. The 755M is your dedicated GPU. As I was saying, if you also have an integrated GPU, try disabling it through your laptop’s software or directly through the BIOS. GW2 has caused problems in the past for people with auto switching GPUs, especially with Windows 8.

Try running Gw2.exe under compatibility mode – Win7 and XP.

The error posted above was caused by nvumdshim.dll failing to access memory, which is a part of NVidia’s drivers. It might be nothing, it could be bad drivers or a memory problem.

Appdata is a hidden folder, make sure in folder options to check that hidden files
and folders are shown.
