So I haven’t played for a while and a couple days ago I wanted to update my client for the beat weekend. However when I start my client the number of file remaining decreases for the first few seconds and then they get stuck. My client keeps downloading and taking up bandwith but the number of remaining files stays the same.
I can play the game but the background player keeps downloading files and taking up a lot of bandwith, so playing pvp is pretty much impossble.

This isn’t just a very large files that is taking a while to download, yesterday I left the client open for 4 hours and it downloaded 4gbs… yet the number of files remaining didn’t go down. The progress tracker is permanently at 0%, doesn’t matter how much I keep the client running.

What I already tried:
-running the client as an admin
-using -assetsrvr
-using a vpn
-running the -repair command.

Is there someone that can help me?

You can use the -log option to see what it’s doing, which saves to %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Gw2.log. If the files aren’t going down, but it is downloading, then it’s downloading corrupted data. Ensure that any security/network/monitoring software isn’t manipulating your traffic. A quick way to test this is rebooting into safe mode with networking enabled (msconfig > boot > safe boot with network).

A VPN should have fixed any network troubles, so ensure GW2 is actually going through it and that you’ve chosen a VPN server in the US or something. You don’t want to use a VPN that’s going through the same network as you.

For the -assetsrv option, use -assetsrv 64.25.41.2, which is ArenaNet’s primary server.
