Instead of having things spread out, here are some solutions to the common problems:

1. The launcher freezes

— This problem has been fixed —

The launcher (or setup) appears to freeze within a few seconds of opening it. This causes the launcher to be unresponsive, input fields do not work and any downloads appear to stop.

This is caused by CoherentUI attempting to use a proxy, which it doesn’t seem to support. Since it gets stuck in a loop, the interface is no longer updated. The launcher is still working however and any downloads in progress are still actually downloading.

Solution

Under the Control Panel, search for and open Internet Options. This may also be found under the Tools menu in Internet Explorer. This will bring up the Internet Properties window. Select the Connections tab and click the LAN settings button near the bottom. Here you will want to ensure that all the checkboxes are unchecked and remain unchecked after clicking OK. If they do not remain unchecked, you have another program managing your proxy settings and will need to disable it.

If that doesn’t work, additionally disable any VPN/tunneling software and any other network related optimization software you may be running.

But I legitimately need a proxy and/or one is forced – a workaround

You can bypass the launcher by creating a shortcut to Gw2.exe with additional command line parameters. To add them, right click the shortcut and select properties. Under the Shortcut tab, add these options to the target field as follows:

“C:\Example\Gw2.exe” -email myemail@example.com -password mypassword -nopatchui

Keep in mind that this doesn’t fix the problem and is only a workaround. You will not be able to access the trading post.

In order to download patches, you will need to run the launcher normally. Keep track of the file size of Gw2.dat to determine if the launcher is downloading anything.

Advanced

For those wanting to attempt something that may not work.

Besides setting up a VPN, as a temporary solution you can setup a local proxy to filter your internet traffic to make it appear normal, as if it wasn’t a proxy. Fiddler is an easy-to-use debugging tool that can help you do this. Install Fiddler, run it and accept its root certificates when asked. Simply start capturing (File > Capture Traffic) to enable the local proxy, which will translate all web requests and fix any minor errors. Stop capturing when you’re done.
________________________________

2. The launcher appears after opening then is invisible

After opening the launcher, it will say initializing then dissapear but remain in the task bar. Trying to minimize/restore the window will have a flashing effect and/or do nothing.

Solution

Your monitor’s color settings are too low.

Right click your desktop and select Screen resolution. For each monitor, right click the monitor and select properties. Under the monitor tab, adjust the Color setting near the bottom to True Color (32 bit) or the highest you have available.

If your highest available is only 16 bit, you will first need to ensure you have the latest graphics and monitor drivers. If it hasn’t changed, you will need to use the command line workaround or invest in new hardware.
________________________________

3. The launcher crashes with an error message (details) about file creation or access

If Gw2.exe is located under the C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) folder, administrative access is required when making modifcations to these folders. You will need to either run the game as an administrator or move GW2 to another location.

Anti-virus software may also be deleting or blocking the file. Add an exception for the folder where GW2 is located.

Awesome buddy, thanks it worked.

For me it wasn’t that Automatically detect settings was checked, but my internet LAN settings were using a proxy. I think this might be an issue for a lot of university students.

Unfortunately this didnt work for me. I’ve tried everything suggested by the Dev’s and you guys but i still cant get it work.

Basically whats happening is there’s no crash when i double click the shortcut or the GW2.exe in the folder to start the patch. just like any other time i go to log in. it just says 0kb/0kb, then initializing, then just disapears off my desktop. The tab is still there at the bottom tray so i can minimize and maximize the window, i just cant see anything.

I tried to patch from an older version from 8/25/14 under properties of the gw2.exe it gets to 11,352kb, then goes from 2000kb/s to 0 pretty slowly. but thats when the error box comes up.

I’m assuming you’re having the issue where your launcher freezes, which this solution applies to? If you’re experiencing one of the other crashes, yeah, this probably won’t help.

If you are freezing (don’t bother if you can’t login using the command line workaround):

You may be using an actual proxy or VPN that could be causing this issue. CoherentUI seems to simply break with proxies.

If you want to be a little more hardcore about it and roughly know what you’re doing with computers, you could install a local proxy as a workaround. This is what I originally did as part of the debugging process. Fiddler is a debugging tool that acts a proxy when capturing network traffic. As a bonus, it can fix a few basic web related errors and acts as a translator. You simply need to download, install, run it and start capturing. All of CoherentUI’s requests, as well as everything else, will go through Fiddler, allowing you to see what is happening. At the very least, it’ll give you an idea as to how far your client is getting.

This isn’t a permanent solution, nor may it even solve your problem, it’s only for if you really want to try to access anything requiring CoherentUI.

this so called fixed has been posted over and over again

Hi there, it worked, mine was the problem explain below no 2, had this mal ware or adware named wisen wizards as my script. thanks for the help ^^

Yoo yoo, found it! check this link out :

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/CoherentUI-Anti-Freeze/first#post4384834

now there could be 3 things thats wrong here.
1. automatic detect settings is CHECK (so maybe uncheck it)
or
2.use automatic configuration script is CHECK (look at the address —- mine was like (x89) wisen wizard, and i googled it (wisen wizard) and it was like adware malware of some sort so i uninstalled it and kept all the boxes un check
or
3. proxy is on.

i keept all those boxes UN CHECK , then ok.

By the way, i un installed the game earlier on because was trying to see if it’ll work (which didnt). and i re installed it again and it works now. hope that makes sense

You need to adjust your monitor’s color settings to 32bit.

This will vary slightly depending on your OS.

Right click your desktop and select Screen resolution. Click Advanced settings and select the Monitor tab. At the bottom is a drop down for colors, select True Color (32bit).

Note that if you have multiple monitors, you will need to do this for your primary one. Select it first or right click it and select properties. To be safe, just do it for all of them.

The Fix:

This automatic proxy detection is enabled by default in Windows. This can be disabled under Control Panel > Internet Options > LAN settings by unchecking Automatically detect settings. Then click OK.

Now CoherentUI will stop using WPAD which should fix the issue, if this was your problem.

For those with comps where one works, you can try directly copying the updated folder to your non-responsive machine. This worked for me (after none of the other fixes did) taking the folder from my WIn7 machine and copying it over onto my WinXP 64 computer.

I read that too in another thread and immediately tried it but to no use.

I hope Arena net will soon find out what the problem is, so we all can get back to playing.
I only got in game because I made a new shortcut to make it skip the login screen, but the TP is crashing me now, even though I tried what they told me to do too :/

For those who can load the launcher, but it freezes: (this may also help others)

After some debugging, I found that CoherentUI was using WPAD, which is a protocol for automatically configuring your proxy. This is where the problem starts and CoherentUI will freeze. For whatever reason, CoherentUI will not accept the WPAD response and will instead continuously request it, in what I assume is a futile attempt in resolving s3.amazonaws.com. Normally, this is where the launcher would be requesting the news section that is displayed after clicking login.

The Fix:

This automatic proxy detection is enabled by default in Windows. This can be disabled under Control Panel > Internet Options > LAN settings by unchecking Automatically detect settings. Then click OK.

Now CoherentUI will stop using WPAD which should fix the issue, if this was your problem.

It definately worked, thanks a lot Healix

If you have a folder named Vebergreat in the Program files (x86), in this folder you have a file named Pac9064. This is a spyware causing the issue. Just go to the control panel and uninstall vebergreat, then launch the game. It worked for me.

Okay I just found a solution, that hopefully will help some of you.

I have been trying to disable the automatic configuration, but it kept reappearing every time I opened it up to check again, tough after a but of searching around the internet I found out the program “Hola” can actually mess you launcher up, if you haven’t tried it, then try to deactivate Hola or delete it, that fixed the launcher for me.

Time to see if it had any effect on the Trade Post.
(UPDATE)
This seems to have fixed the Trade post problem as well.

I hope some of you will be able to use this info to get back into GW2
