Computer FPS issues, should be better.
Same problem here. Slightly better than your: 20-25 outside, 15 in a big city.
processor: i5 750 2.67GHz, graphics: nvidia gts 250 1GB, memory: 4GB, OS: W7 x64
The game was smooth in the beta and in the first one-two months after headstart. Now it’s choppy and nearly unplayable. Lowering the graphic effects does nothing.
Can’t be a bottleneck ‘cause it was fine at the start. Must be something else.
Same thing with other MMORPGs (Tera), which anyway uses up to 90% of my GPU, while GW2 uses 50-60% of it.
The thing that troubles me is that both ran fine, now they’re choppy. can’t understand what’s happening.

its your cpu’s, you need at least 4.5ghz out of those chips to get stable fps in gw2.
the 955 should clock to around 4 with a decent cooler and motherboard.
the i5 im not sure, but the 250 is just a rebadged 8800gts512 so its pretty old and weak by todays standards.
read the FAQ, it is 100% a cpu bottleneck, and anet cant seem to fix it, they say they are working on it, but some of us wonder if they really are…i mean, Im sure the dev’s want to but……
the games got 3 perf critical threads, if any one of these hits a wall even for an instant, your fps go to kitten.
My opinion for why gw2 is this way is two fold.
1. somebody in management at anet/ncsoft saw $.$ at the idea of a console port of the game, dx9 and 3 heavy threads point to this pretty heavy, the xbox 360 and ps3 both use dx9 level gfx chips, the 360 uses a tricore cpu as well, the problem is, gw2 is to cpu heavy to work on a console…..
2. somebody saw $.$ at the idea of selling gw2 to people running XP even if they really cant run the game at an acceptable level on their systems.
I really dont blame the dev’s , comments from years ago make it clear they where excited to use dx10 and 11, but, alas, we got a game using 11 year old tech supporting an OS that even the creator has abandoned….(xp is eol)

I know it’s probably my CPU, but it’s not about the frequency., because my wife’s PC is a 3.2GHz Phenom II X4 and the game it’s smooth as butter.
I’m really asking WHY it worked in the stress test and in the first month, just to know what is changed. The servers were full of people and it ran great anyway.
Now when I’m in a zone with a lot of architecture (big cities, WvW) it becomes unplayable, and it’s usually choppy and not so pleasant to watch.

You’re correct, its not about frequency, its about single thread performance. Frequency helps achieve this, but ultimately its all about the architecture of the CPU.
During the stress test, they might not have had everything implemented yet. If I were you, I would try to overclock your CPU and see what happens.

If mandatory overclocking of CPU’s is the status quo for Anet to address performance issues regarding computers with unplayable frames well above minimum requirements then this has to be the most poorly optimized game in history.
I have never seen a game that demands users to overclock their CPU’s in order to get acceptable framerates. By acceptable I mean at least 30 fps.
I have gone on and on regarding how poorly this game is designed, coded and optimized.
Anet has given ZERO information regarding any kind of performance update with the exception of culling for WvW.
Advertising system requirements that are really a joke is downright despicable if they don’t make changes to this game.

Like OP said…game is totally bad optimized right now…dont even look at minimal requirements coz its big bs and jump on cash..and no I have bit above recomended specs rig…still forced to playing on minimal settings due to 32 bit OS and GW 2 problems with it.After 6 months game was realised u burn out from 4 gb ram memory in 3-4 hrs of playing on minimal [I write about WvW mainly]then ur getting 100% crash,so 32 bit compability is another bs…there are just too many dumb things with this game and 32 bit OS to make em work stable.Looking at patch notes…we won’t get any performance update soon,I would even say that its overal performance is dropping – look before and after winters patch.I just have a feeling that game is just too much for devs ..they acting so slow…+ feb patch in march….if they fail with ,,polishing’’ it im done for good.

alot of the problems come down to anet optimizing with the thought of porting to console with tricore cpu and dx9 level gfx…….to bad the 360 lacks the power to actually run the game.
they also stuck to 32bit and dx9 because that way, they could sell the game to windows XP users whos systems really cant run the game worth a kitten #8230;.but hey they still got those poor suckers money!!!
i dont blame the developers so much as management who made the decision to gimp the game due to $.$, all they could see where dollar signes…..after all…..who cares if you kitten off alot of people, very few will actually askfor/demand a refund…..
you shouldnt be forced to overclock a high end system to get 30fps…….you shouldnt even have to oc a min spec system to get a min of 30fps…..but, alas this is gw2 we are talking about, a game where you can have a cpu that costs over 1000usd, and a cpu that costs over 1000usd and you still need to overclock to get a chance at 30fps min……

Hello fellow guild wars 2’ers, i got a problem with my framerate. It is 20 outside and 9 fps in the big city of the scarr. I got everything on low and everything disabled that improves the graphic. But my pc should perform much better? I bought him 2 months ago and its a custom pc for gaming. Drivers are up to date. this is my diag:

whats your gpu model like link the amd page from their website for this cause your cpu should be fine to play this game there is very little difference between that and the lower end quad fx series a mb higher in l3 cache maybe
Same here. Its obviously that my geforce 220 is friggin outdated(here in Brazil everything costs 4x more than in US or EU), but it has nothing to do with graphics, cause I played it at max. graphs with no lag, and now even if I set it to the lowest, I still get like 4-12 fps. The lag started for me in november I guess, but it was very rare to happen. Now it happens everytime, at any place…I have a i5 3.2 ghz, windows 7 pro, 4gb ram. I just want to play the game, you know? I cant even play spvp or wvw anymore.

Currently the game runs on an antiquated DX9 engine that is limiting the game in a few aspects.
TLDR:
There are performance increases to be had by using a newer DX10 and/or DX11 based engine that Guild Wars 2 runs on. This change would be a start for relieving the CPU bottleneck that people encounter in crowded areas of the game. In addition to the performance increases, we would see more stunning visuals.
Full Version:
While the game runs well in certain parts of the world, other parts of the world are seeing performance degrade. By moving to a new engine based on either DX10 or DX11, the engine can take advantage of some of the new features that are included in these new iterations of DirectX. There are optimizations in DX10 and DX11 compared to the legacy functions of DX9 that are improved upon, thus alleviating some of the CPU use. One of the reasons DX11 was created was to help developers utilize multiple CPU cores more efficiently. This should help the cores that are bogged down with work to have less work to do but still achieve the same result.
Currently Guild Wars 2 heavily uses 3 cores, but in the past few years we have seen an increase in the number of cores a CPU has because CPU makers have yet to find an efficient way to get past the 4 Ghz speed barrier. Speeds beyond this limit generate too much heat for some systems and stability issues are created. Naturally CPU makers have continued to improve upon their designs, but had to do so horizontally (more CPU cores) instead of vertically (higher frequency speed). Many of you may have experienced a decrease in game performance when participating in large dynamic events, such as the dragon events, or participate in large world versus world battles with close to one-hundred people participating. In those specific times of the game, more likely than not, your CPU is simply not fast enough to compute all the actions happening on the screen which results in the decreased performance you may see. By expanding Guilds Wars 2 to use the available CPU compute power more efficiently, the game can take a step towards being a more mature game that will stand the test of time.
In addition to having the game run more efficiently and provide a smoother experience, the game would look even more stunning, graphically, than it already does. This is because of some of the more advanced feature sets that were created for DX10 and DX11 could be used in conjunction with the art style of Guild Wars 2. Overall, we would get a richer experience from Guild Wars 2 and truly make it the game everyone wants to play.

The following link shows what the Steam Community (a large portion of the PC gaming community) is using in terms of hardware as of February 2013. One particular graph shows that over half of the Steam Community are using a DX11 compatible graphics card and over a third is using a DX10 compatible graphics card.

Thank you for your support, and I hope to see you in game!
if you are interested in the issue i have started a petition in the https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum forums this is a link to the direct forum petition
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/petition-for-dx10-11-support/first
which is only way to do so according to arenanet GM’s confirmed by email. I also want to mention they promised dx10 then dx11 support ( this was beta / pre beta ) on release yet left us with dx9 and well we are paying the price for it now with the issues we have now with resource usage mainly cpu due to antiquated dx9 / gw1 engine the engine / dx9 were never meant to do what they are forcing it to do on modern hardware that performs poorly on the older software / engine / dx9.
