Computer Network Issues after playing GW2
I was just disconnected from the game again and again it disconnected the wireless connection between my computer and router. How is this acceptable in any way?
It would be nice to get some response from tech support explaining what is causing this so I know if my motherboard and its onboard wireless card are going to be damaged if I keep playing guild wars 2.
It might happen if you router lose connection to Internet. It seems your router cannot handle high / frequent network traffic.
I had such issue with my router – it shutdowns connection when I use torrent client to download video. At that moment I use my router in bridge mode and PPPoE is setup on my PC.
Also possible: line noise – it might be not noticeable with low / non frequent traffic. But if high traffic – you may lose network connection.

So is it GW2 then? I still haven’t managed to figure out my issue either. Been using Ethernet for now since problems only with WiFi.
are you using 802.11n to connect to your wifi?
Try using only a/b/g.
once i had a laptop that acted realy funny with type n connections.
The wifi card supported it, but it disconnected a lot.
Put the router back to 802.11a/b/g and the problem was gone.
maybe worth a try.
ps: gaming over a ethernet cable will allways be more stable then
over a wireless connection.

So, you have problem with WiFI network. It is not GW2 problem.
This is regular problem for poor-cheap WiFI adapters.

GW2 cannot “damage” your network connection any more than iheart radio can cause your cell reception to go in and out…..

I wish I could connect with Ethernet but unfortunately, I don’t have that option because of the room in which my computer is located. Still my WiFi usually has a download speed of 28 and upload speed of 25 until I play this particular game and get disconnected and then it gets sluggish. I have spoken to my ISP and they tell me I have the fastest connection they offer.
If it was just that my router could not handle high / frequent network traffic then wouldn’t this behavior have occurred previously before July 1st? And wouldn’t it also occur with other MMOs?
What is special about Guild Wars 2 in this respect?

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll give that a try.

There is an issue with WiFi becoming congested since everything is becoming WiFi enabled now this is becoming a real problem especially in high populated areas if posable use a cable from you router to your PC also there are other devices that use the same frequencies as WiFi, Bluetooth, cordless phones, radio control toys, baby monitors just to name a few. One little know fact is that if your are a licensed amateur radio operator in the US you can legally use the same 2.4ghz frequencies as WiFi channels 1 threw 6 and use higher output power than a consumer grade WiFi router but most hams don’t do this because they have to use their call sign as the SSID and can’t use any encryption, but it’s fun to experiment.
put the correct term in but not everyone has kittens
The issue is that your using wireless. I also have this issue, but its not related to GW2. GW2 and other applications that are heavy on the network (such as bit torrent) will force your wireless router to work harder to keep connections flowing. This can/will cause the router to heat up, which can and will cause wireless issues until it cools down again.
I had to put a fan on my wireless access point to get the issue to stop, ultimately. and I suggest you look into the same solution/issue as well.
When the disconnection happens, is your router hot to the touch (hot, near burning your hand…ect) if so, then you are facing a heating issue.

Have you tried checking your router and modem to see if they need updating? I know for Cisco routers and other routers to log in is 168.196.1.1. small prompt will pop up asking for password and username. username should be Admin and password is blank or password.
Check your manual how to log in. Im betting that one or the other needs updating.
I think you mean 192.168.1.1.

If that IP IS your local address, that is likely your problem…first 2 octets NEED to be 192.168 for NAT to work properly.
