*Computer crashes after latest patch*
Really, the way Windows is setup, the game cannot have direct access to the hardware; for the game to cause the system to die is very unlikely. The game is very CPU intensive; which could make it run hot, but the system should bluescreen and shutdown before any permanent damage is done.
Did it just power down or was there a blue screen? generally if it just shutoff; I would look at a faulty power supply.

With me, I’m running Windows 8 and it simply shut down.
With my friend, who has Windows 7, it bluescreened, then shut down.
I know it seems unlikely that GW2 would be the cause of this, but it seemed rather ominous that we downloaded the same patch on the same day and both got this problem.
That is unusual, but not out of the question. For your issue; if you can test your system with a new power supply, sounds like that might be the issue.
As for your friend’s bluescreen; can you post anything more on that? You can usually find the dumps under C:\Windows\Minidumps or something like that.
I know I was getting a BSOD with the latest nVidia drivers when playing GW2. I rolled back to the May(or April) HWQL drivers and haven’t had any issues since.

I should note that these crashes occurred while neither of us was on GW.
I highly doubt it was my computer overheating, as the only things I had open were Word, Powerpoint, and Chrome and it only felt warm at most.
Interesting; your crash definitely points to a power loss. We could confirm that if you were able to boot; the Windows event log would have a critical error about power loss/interruption. Faulty power supplies are the usual culprit. I would highly doubt overheating was the issue.

I’ll see, as mine is a very new computer, manufactured in May, and I’ve been pretty gentle with it.
I would ask him to, but his computer is doing the same thing, no longer turning on at all. His is much older than mine.
The other thing that we suspect is that at the time we were both at our college campus, using their wifi, so it may be something linked to that (they’re both laptops).
I’ll wait a while and if I can get it to turn back on, I’ll check the event log. The first time it happened, it was plugged into the charger, so I’m thinking that perhaps there’s an issue with internal wiring or something.
I know it sucks; but new hardware can still be bad. I bought a ASUS G53 last year; died on day 1. I then got it replaced and it died 30 days later. Sent it back and got a full refund. The rigs had a bad lot of graphics cards.
