Connection Error(s) Detected Retrying [merged]
1. For the first step go to your start button and on the search box type cmd and hit enter (you should run cmd.exe). Then you get this DOS like box. This is where you type ipconfig -flushdns (hit enter) and then type ipconfig -registerdns (hit enter and wait about 10 seconds).
2. After this, and this step is what really did it for me, change your DNS settings. To do that, go to your network connections panel (you can access it by going to start»control panel»network and sharing center»change adapter settings (the option on the left). And then right click on your local connection icon and hit properties. Then you get this list of items, click on the one that says internet protocol version 4 and hit the properties button.
3. Finally this is where you change your DNS settings. You don’t need to change the IP adresses. So on the first fields type 8.8.8.8 and on the second field (alternate) type 8.8.4.4. Hit ok, close all these windows, wait about 20 seconds (sometimes more it depends on the internet conection) to settle up. And try to execute the launcher. If it runs smoothly then it has been fixed!

I have found Steam to have quite an adverse effect on the download if it is running in the background on the system. The DNS renew trick worked for me and I was getting a decent download speed but as soon as I opened Steam up it just nose dived and gave the connection error again. Soon as I closed Steam down again the DL speed shot back up.
Hopefully this will be of help to some of you.

Changing the DNS worked for me, cheers
I had the same problem. For many hours i couldnt download anything. It allways said only that message “Connection error…” and turning off my firewall didnt help at all. Just changing the DNS helped me and the game downloaded everything in few minutes.
Btw: Thank you very much for your advice and detailed instruction Pjur. Really helped me a lot ^^

I have been having problems with my game, keeps booting me to desktop saying GW2 is unable to continue running so i decided to re-install the client hoping this would sort the problem. I have been trying to install the client for two days now and i keep getting the same problem the download gets to about 10% then it freezes saying “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” and it never re-connects again. I have installed it in the past so i know my system can cope with it. I have searched the internet trying to solve the problem and have seen people suggesting disabling your antivirus, fiewall and windows defender which i have tried but hasn’t worked. I have also tried flushing and registering my DNS and this hasn’t worked either. I have now put in a request to support and am waiting for a reply but am unsure how long this will take.
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE?

Hey guys,
If you’re getting this error double-check to check and see if you have any security software or firewalls enabled to see if they might be blocking the client.
Im having same issue, ive turned off my firewall but no joy. Im using BitDefender Total Security
I have the same problem. In my case when I run downloader it downloads normally (14 – 15MB/s) then the transfer drops to 0.05KB/s and then suddenly appears: “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…”. I turned of my firewall and antyvirus and I also did many things with DNS but the error still appears. I have no idea what’s wrong…

I have been reading some of the comments on the other post about this and it seems that Anet are trying to blame it on our systems, antivirus or DNS but my game was running fine until the last patch which was buggy as hell and then it stopped working and now i can’t re-install it.

Same thing happening to me mate, first I get abysmally slow download speeds then it stops. Worst part is that if I close it and open it again it seems to RESTART the download.
I just sent a ticket to customer support, now waiting for their reply. But I am really dissapointed at the moment.

Nah I tried that Fearless Sister and did not work for me. Guys.. for someone of you it can work if you do: Make a shortcut of GW2.exe that is in your instalation folder, name it Guild Wars 2 Port Test, right click on it – properties and you see something named target path? And there something like: “C:\Guild Wars 2\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” . AFTER this write /clientport 80 example: “C:\Guild Wars 2\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” /clientport 80 .

Actually deleted every file of gw2 (again) and now i’m trying to download (already did) client patch from site of GW2 and install it(actually trying). Actually It’s better because speed is like from 10kbs to 10Mbs and It’s still changing but that’s better than 0.35 kbs. Error appears and disappears. I’ll tell ya later, maybe I can download it with a lot of patience.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments#-clientport_80
if it is work → /w your ISP to open ‘game’ ports.
For those of you experiencing this problem, what error code are you getting?

Did you launch game with command line argument? Did you follow instruction "Using command line arguments "?
With -diag argument – gw2.exe will start diagnostic and show NetworkDiag.log at the end by clicking ‘View results’ button.

So This is your ISP DNS server problem.
As alternative solution – you can try use public google DNS server.
Good game)
