Connection error. Retrying.
I’m having the exact same problem. Yesterday’s update went through just fine, but I can’t download and install this new update.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had problems updating GW2.
I have the same issue. Reset router, restarted comp. Why no worky?

I just got it going, at least I think it was my doing. There were 14 Windows updates waiting to be installed. Once I finished that and rebooted my system GW2 updated just fine.
I’m running Win7 64. Maybe check yours? Hope it helps. =)
same issue, anyone find a fix?
Yeah, GW2 isn’t working for me. At all. Can’t even boot up the setup client to install it; it just freezes. Doesn’t work on any computer I own nor on my neighbors a few miles down the road. There seems to be an issue between the Arenanet servers and my local area. Do any of you live in the Indiana/Michigan area?
I’m in the same boat. I get the connection error message then freeze. Cant even close the launcher window.
Exactly, it starts downloading at a very, very slow pace and then freezes completely. Only option is to go into task manager and directly close the process. It was bothering me for like an hour because I thought it was on my end.
Same problem here, and Zed yes Indiana here.
P.S. Would love some GM awesomeness on this thread
I finally made it through to the file download portion of the festivities. It was nothing that I did it just got there on its own, painfully slowly.
I should add that I’m in Missouri in case that’s helpful.

Northwest Indiana here, same boat. Forced to axe-murder the launcher with Task Manager. Then came to see if there was news (after GW2’s Twitter page didn’t mention any downtime).
UPDATE: A reboot and grabbing the updates fixed it, as TBP’s post also said. I’m in now.

I rebooted and it didn’t seem to remediate the problem. Even ran speedtest,
Open up command prompt
Type route print
Verify that there are no guild wars 2 specific re-routes in the routing table. (This confirms that there are no bad routes in the hosts file.) if you do find a bad route, you’ll need to modify the host file, refer to google to do that.
Type iconfig /release
Ipconfig /renew
Ipconfig /flushdns
Netsh windsock reset
Once finished, make sure guild wars 2 is running under administrator mode. Also make sure that your firewall has made Guild Wars 2 open on all ports.
Also clear your Guild Wars 2 cache
The quickest way to clear the GW2 Cache is to:
Ensure your game is completely closed.
Hold your “Windows Key” and press “F” to open Windows Search on your computer.
Search for “gw2cache”
It will find a folder called “gw2cache-{bunch-of-letters-and-numbers}” at:
“C:\Users\YourComputerUserName\AppData\Local\Temp”
Delete this “gw2cache-{bunch-of-letters-and-numbers}” folder that is shown in the results.
Restart your computer, if not fixed try the Google DNS fix:
