Not entirely sure what’s up but I think GW2 is trying to patch and it’s giving me a connection error as soon as I try to launch the game.
im having the same issue
had no trouble yesterday
retried a couple of times and it got itself going

same.
everytime there is a patch, i have to struggle for hours on this. one out of few hundred times, it goes through
The same thing is happening to me. I’ve never had this problem before. Windows 8, Comcast connection, central IL. No problems with any other programs/downloads.
Same issue since the update on Tuesday. First time I’ve ever had this problem.
I’m having this problem right now. Clearly I have an internet connection so it must be the game. I did not have this issue yesterday.
Yeah same problem indeed, i tried to download the client for the first time today and got that same text on install screen
I’m having this problem right now. Played yesterday just fine, and I’ve never encountered this problem before, but I am now unable to log in. The error message appears as soon as the client loads.

yes red letters of no connection, like you i played fine yesterday but cant log in today. so bummed.
Same here. If I don’t force it to close (through task manager) the game launcher will come up after 10-15 minutes or so. No problems yesterday and now this.
I had no problems before the last patch. Now it just sits there and eventually shows the same error. I too have no Internet issues nor had any before. I can play any of my other games with no issues. I do hope we get a response soon. Edit: going on 3 days now.

I had the same problem. Changing my DNS (to google’s, 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4) did not help. Adding this line:
174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
to this file:
SystemDrive\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
did help. So I guess for me it was DNS thing, but like I said, just switching to google’s DNS didn’t help.

Today (12/9) is the first day I have tried to log into GW2 since 12/4. At first the game started to update, which, being Tuesday, I expected. Then the login process ended with the same error as everyone mentions here. I tried One Note Chord’s solution, and it did not fix the problem. I have also tried restarting the router and rebooting the computer. Does anyone have an answer for this problem?
Been playing GW2 for years and never had this problem come up until recently. It’s been giving me this error for at least the past 3 days (hadn’t logged on in a few days previously) and I can’t get it to connect. Firewalls/Antivirus is not the problem here. Going to try One Note’s solution when I get a chance and hopefully that fixes it. Will report back.

Yup adding the line
174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
to:
SystemDrive\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Worked like a charm. Thanks so much!
Same thing happened to me once. I waited for a day, still had the same problem. Uninstalled, reinstalled. Worked! :P
Wow, you guys have had this since 17 days ago? I only got this problem 12 hours ago. That’s weird. That’s very weird.
When will this get fixed? Are the solutions some people suggested legit? some response from Anet?
