I was in the middle of defending against a large garrison attempt when the game froze and I was kicked from the game.
When trying to log back in now all I get is the message – “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying” and I am unable to progress past this screen. I can see it attempt about 3-4x before it just freezes and I have to use the task manager to close the unresponsive program down.
Tried restarting the computer and everything else works fine on the computer. Obviously the internet works fine or I wouldn’t be making this post.
Getting this today. Logged out to receive build update, couldn’t log back in due to this error.
Edit: My DNS servers are the google public ones, I’ve tried adding an exclusion to my firewall, tried using wireless instead of ethernet, tried running as admin, tried ipconfig -flushdns and ipconfig -registerdns, nothing.

I’m getting this to.
I’ve been receiving this message for the last couple of days but gw2 was working fine until the patch hit last night. Since then, i get the message again and similarly, have to close the launcher via task manager.
I’ve had the same problem twice now. The first time, I had to reinstall the entire game and then it worked. This time, the game won’t even install in my laptop and it happens every time a patch hits. It will open the launcher, look like its going to work, and then the whole thing crashes. It gives me a crash error saying that “Timed out creating browser content” and the launcher will just close on its own. I’ve even asked some guild members if they’ve ever had this problem, and they’ve been playing way longer than I have and no one seems to have ever had this issue.
I am having the same error. The game was working fine yesterday till the patch hit and now the client just has a connection error. I can not even get to where I can download the patch. This happened to me on another patch as well and reinstalled and reset my router (even though I was having no problems with the internet) and now, every time I open the client it just sits there and has to be forced closed. I am going to have some withdrawals soon.
If you’re using the -assetsrv option or modified your hosts file, you’ll need to remove those changes. These servers can change, so if you were using a specific one, it may no longer be available.
That said, if you’re having trouble connecting to your default asset server, try a different one. Right click a GW2 shortcut and select properties. Modify the shortcut’s target like this:
Target: “C:\Example\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 62.154.232.187
Here are some alternate servers you can try:
174.35.52.174
62.154.232.187
151.249.90.138
194.25.94.170
174.35.71.9
151.249.90.199
93.188.135.37
62.154.232.194
Also ensure that your firewall isn’t blocking Gw2.exe.
This is part is for a specific issue which shouldn’t apply for most people. Search your start menu for cmd, right click cmd.exe and run it as an administrator. Enter the following command, press enter and reboot: netsh winsock reset
The first time, I had to reinstall the entire game and then it worked.
There is really no point in reinstalling the entire game, unless your dat file is heavily corrupted. The only thing that really accomplishes is getting your security software to redetect it.
If you want to start fresh:
Delete the folder %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/
Delete the file Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat
Delete everything in the folder where Gw2.exe is located, except Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat
Delete all folders named gw2cache in the %temp% folder
Check your security software for any rules against Gw2.exe, or simply move both Gw2.exe and Gw2.dat to a new location.
It gives me a crash error saying that “Timed out creating browser content” and the launcher will just close on its own.
That is generally caused by your security software preventing Gw2.exe from starting CoherentUI, which is used to display web pages and the launcher’s interface. Delete the bin folder located in the same folder as Gw2.exe and add Gw2.exe to your security software’s exceptions. Specifically, look for a feature called HIPS or something involving execution prevention. If there’s a sandboxing feature, disable it. If your security software has an automatic/game/silent mode, disable it so you’ll actually see it block something.
thanx Healix, that fix works for me.
cheers
