Constant Crashes/BSoDs NEED HELPPPP
TMPIN0 is an unknown sensor. You’d need to look at the device it’s listed under to determine what it is or find a better monitor program that has it identified. You should be able to look under the BIOS to see the available sensors on the motherboard.
That BSoD error basically means the video drivers stopped working. Besides bad drivers, this can also be caused by faulty hardware – the video card crashed/shutdown. If that 97C is listed under the GPU for example, the fan on the video card probably isn’t functioning properly, causing it to overheat and halt, which would cause that BSoD.
“Cleaned and reapplied thermal compound, dropped temps, but TMPIN0 still reaches 97C+ during stress tests and gaming.”
Something either went wrong with the repair or your cooling system is malfunctioning.
It’s somewhat rare, but a heatpipe can fail if the seal breaks on the copper piping. I have seen this happen (well no, I couldn’t SEE it), but it can certainly cause this problem on a laptop.
What I did was order a (used) heatsink and fan assembly on Ebay for this particular laptop that was overheating. Unfortunately, it was a bit expensive (about 80 bucks), but it was not available anywhere else I looked. It did solve the problem though, which proved that the heat-pipe was defective.
This particular laptop was reaching mid-90’s C just watching Youtube videos. After the repair, it maxed out in the mid-70’s range (I had already tried new thermal grease and pads).
I haven’t received a BSoD all day ever since the one that happened at 6am. I’m wondering if it’s because the thermal compound ‘settled’? Although, the temperature rises to 80C+ while playing certain games on highest settings.
Is it possible to replace the fan on my GPU? Also, I have the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M, are they both the GPU? Or is the intel my GPU and the nvidia my graphics card? Apologies, kinda new to this.
I found out that the TMPIN0 is my GPU, which is one of the above mentioned.
Realllyyyy don’t wanna fork out $400 for a new GTX675 >_>
Also, I have the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M, are they both the GPU?
Yes. Basically, the Intel is for everyday use whereas the GTX is for graphically intensive applications, like games.
The ability to replace, or easily replace, the fan (and/or heatsink) is dependent on the design of the laptop. You’ll need to find out the layout of your laptop, unscrew the bottom casing and work from there. Alternatively, you can attempt to use an external cooling source, which may also be useful to confirm that overheating is your problem, assuming you can easily repeat the problem.
Keep in mind that with laptops, you can’t just go out and buy a new card like you would with a desktop computer. It has to fit the specific laptop model.
lets start by you telling us what laptop you DO have. Alot of dell’s later gen laptops (2010-current) that are Precision or Alienware use MXM based GPUs. But, not all of them do. So, you’ll need to be sure if your laptop has the GPU thats modular (MXM) or if its embedded to your motherboard before you decide to replace it. This will be a self repair, unless your laptop is still under warranty.
I had a Quadro 3800 in my M6500 when I first received it, the GPU was bad (BSOD pointing to the NV drivers, weird behavior in 2d windows desktop, Video randomly cutting to a black LCD…ect), after replacing the GPU with a different one (FireGL 7820/HD5870) the BSOD’s stopped. So depending on the thermal damage done to your GPU you may well be looking at a hardware replacement anyway.

Well, with this specific laptop, it’s able to have parts replaced and upgraded as needed, because it was custom made. I’ve got a replacement card ready to be ordered if needed, but was hoping this was a software and not a hardware issue.
lets start by you telling us what laptop you DO have.
CPU: Intel Core i7 3740QM 2.7GHz [higher when OC’d]
GPU: NVidia GeForce GTX 675M, Intel HD Graphics 4000
RAM: Corsair 8GB [2×4GB]
256GB SSD [has OS and GW2 on it, faster load times etc]
1TB HDD eSata [has other games, documents/files etc]
