Semester is finally over, come back to play a little, and my account is hacked, what little gold I had gone, and my character someplace other than where I left him.

Does this 2 step Authentication work? I have already changed my PW to some God aweful 21 letter/number combo.

I just don’t get it, 8 years of WoW, and never once hacked. GW2? Hacked twice now.

And I shall tear the heavens apart, and cast fire down upon my enemies. Fear me, for I am the Mage.

Another 4 emails today about having my password reset. I linked my phone to the app, here’s hoping for it to work….

If someone stole your GW2 account, it is because of 1 of 3 things:

1. You used a very weak password and your account was accessed via a brute force attack.

2. You used the same password for GW2 as some other site that was compromised which basically allowed someone to simply type in your email address and password.

3. Your email account has been compromised and the “hacker” simply requested a password reset and logged in.

For safety purposes, change your password for your email account BEFORE you change your GW2 password, then submit a ticket to ArenaNet by clicking on “Support” at the top of the page and request that your account be tied to a new email address.

You can also request that your account be rolled back in order to reclaim your stolen items.

The 2 Step Authenticator will prevent new IP addresses from being added to your “allowed” list, which will help going forward but won’t lock out a “hacker” who is already in your account.

In addition to mtpelion’s excellent advice, you might also decide to contact from a second, secure e-mail account, so you do not jeopardize your security through an e-mail account that may be known by an hacker.

Why don’t we have an authentication app for smartphones yet?
I ever got hacked or fished in any game or email because I know they do it but adding another security layer won’t hurt imo.

Sure we have the google authenticator thing but it is not the same thing

Here is information about an authentication app to download and install on your personal mobile device: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/27626157-Two-Factor-Authentication
