Hey everyone. Based on my google searches, it seems that others suffer from crashes and that there is no real solution. I’m hoping that I can be proven wrong.

On a regular basis, my game crashes because “a file was corrupted in the archive”. I have even started repairing my game before every session I play. I still get errors.

I have repaired the game several times AND un-installed and re-installed the whole game. No luck.

This computer is fairly new and has very good specs, so I can’t understand why this is an issue.

I have:
Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
16gb of RAM
Intel core i5 Iby Bridge (3570k)
My windows installation on a Sandisk SSD
And my games stored on a WD 1tb HDD

Attached is my error message.

Same problem here, i even went further and re-installed on a different hard drive. repairing does nothing and my system is pretty high end and essentially brand new. I have yet to find any kind of solution.

That was going to be the last thing I tried, I won’t now. I always seem to get this corrupted file crashing problem. It takes a good 5mins to repair the game after each crash, I’ve done all the check disc, repair, system stuff I can, updated drivers yet I seem to have this problem more than all of my friends that play this game.

Its not game breaking for me but it gets annoying. Normally the game crashes when I load into a new zone. The last couple have been during intense fighting in the Eternal Battleground.

it always seems to say this:
File: ..\..\..\Game\Main\MainCli.cpp(589)

Looks like you and I are in the same boat, unfortunately it’s become game breaking for me, as it seems the crashes occur more and more often. Always a corrupted file, despite repairs and re-installations.

It’s sad to see that so many others are suffering what I do. It’s even worse to see that nothing is being done about it.

I’m sorry that you guys have to be annoyed by this too. I hope we can all find a solution!

I’ve had the same problem for a few weeks now and I’m starting to get tired of it. Earlier I happened to crash during 3-way fights in Stonemist or changing maps, then it got worse. Now my client can crash all of a sudden while I’m running alone. And it happens only in WvW, as it seems. My PC might not be the best when it comes to performance, but I doubt it can’t handle the lower settings. I have also tried repairing, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect. I would like to know, if there’s any solution to the problem, other than trying GW2 on a stronger PC.

Something like this?

I got that now
Last time I had this problem was when the game got released. They advised me to change my antivirus program (AVG and 1 other virus program weren’t compatible with GW2) so I bought a new antivirus program and fixed it. Now however I have the problem again.. Hope it’s something on their side instead of my side this time.

Hi Andrizzay – Your Crash logs are showing CRC errors, what this means is that something has caused a file to be the wrong size and corrupted the installation. The first thing we want to rule out are issues on your drive.

Please do the following first to check and repair your drive:

1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.

2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.

3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

4. To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

5. Click Start.

Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, don’t use your computer for any other tasks while it’s checking for errors.

Once that is complete, Please navigate to your Documents > Guild Wars 2 folder and in there you should see a file called Local.dat. Delete this file.

Once you’ve done this please repair the client again.

Hope this helps!

Andrizzay -

Check your RAM timings, speed and voltage in the BIOS. Are you using matched pairs of memory? If not, you should be. If the settings are correct, try the game after removing half the memory. Try moving the RAM sticks around and re-seating them.

File corruption is usually a memory or hard drive issue and if the hard drive was the cause it probably would have completely failed already.

My game has started crashing a lot after the last major update, especially in the new dungeon, so I don’t think it’s just you having this problem, and it could possibly not be our computers having issues.

If the crashes are caused by crc errors, it’s caused by corrupted files indeed (Had this myself numerous times in other games). U need to fix these files. If – repair doesn’t work, trying a clean reinstall might fix it, since u already did, the error might still be caused bij registry entries (had this too in the other game). Might be worth it checking your registries? There are prolly better ppl here that can advise u how to do this, which lines of the registry u’ll have to remove to do this.

Well I’m glad I’m not the only one crashing a LOT in this game. And don’t tell me it’s my computer. That’s utter nonsense. Whereas I have other games installed to my D drive and among other games such as Saints Row The Third, BioShock Infinite, Scarlet Blade, The Sims 3, blah blah blah. None of them crash after HOURs & HOURs of playing them. EVER. Yet I can’t even go through whole day of playing Guild Wars 2 without it crashing 4 or 5 times in a play segment. Just out of the clear blue it’s always something causing the game to crash for no reason that I can tell. Yes I can read the error logs just fine. Yes I can read the Corrupt-XX.dat files. None of that does me 1 bit of good. You guys won’t tell us what these errors are. Out of all the error reports I have ever sent I have NEVER gotten a reply from ANYONE about what the problem is.

I don’t PvP at all. Nothing. No WvW, No tPvP, no PvP at all. 100% PvE for me. And yet the guild I’m in is 98% PvP and they say they don’t experience crashes from the game hardly ever. So why am I experiencing it all the time?

As the picture will show you below all the Corrupt Files I have accumulated over time that is a tad bit ridiculous. And annoying to say none the least. Constantly having to repair the game over & over & over makes me at times not want to play because of these issues. But I always come back to it. And I will repair it AGAIN like I always do. Why? Because I actually enjoy this game.

I will say this in closing, Guild Wars 2 in all it’s glory & beauty for me is the ONLY GAME that has ever given me this much grief in the past 10 years. And believe me when I say I’m a hardcore gamer, I’m not kidding. I have played 1000’s of games. And I would have to say that out of the top 5 games that have given me grief from errors this one is in the top 3.

Don’t get me wrong. I love your game AN. I really do. And it’s why I will stick with it through thick & thin. And I will go through the hassle of repairing the data AGAIN. But someone really has to knuckle down and fix this stuff. Nothing is more annoying that getting into a battle with something and then all of the sudden WHAM crash.

So anyways, my game has repaired itself AGAIN…So I’m off to play for awhile.

I solved my issue.

It somehow ended up being bad memory (or a bad memory slot on the motherboard?)

I didn’t run a RAM test, but I just pulled out on stick of RAM and hoped it would help and I somehow am not crashing anymore. By pure luck that helped.

Funny that Guild Wars 2 was the only game that was crashing while other games like Skyrim, WoW, SWTOR, Sims 3, etc didn’t ever crash.

I advise you to create a memory test CD and see if you have a bad stick of RAM.

If that does not solve your problem, I’m sorry and hope you find a solution. AND I hope that we get actual support from ArenaNet. Not the generic copy and pasted answer bull kitten.
