So basically the FAQ says, “Call your ISP”. Okay. And tell them what? All my other internet services are working perfect except my gw2 client is rubberbanding? That wont float lol. Seeing as how it CANT be ISP unless its a port/proxy issue, its a gw2 issue. All my other internet functions are properly working, including other games.

e:
Oh, I forgot to say. This happened immediately after stomping an anet tagged individual in quaggan form. He must have been super kittened too. Not sure if that matters, but yeah, my client died right at that point.

It’s not just Anet, the whole country is under a massive bot attack right now. See here for a live map of the action. It’s totally trippy. http://map.ipviking.com (Edited to clean up the link.)

This had nothing to do with my problem though.

My guildies are online and I cant. I’m not usually a conspiracy person but this happened literally right after I demoralized a arena net rep in wvw.

Yeah, but your guildies may not be using the same ISP you are, or traveling through the same backbone. With a distributed attack like this, the effects will be localized to the bit of structure being punished at that time. As I said in other threads, I do think there is a problem at the Anet/Level 3 server point…but I think the trouble they are having extends beyond their corporate sphere. I think we’re seeing a big botnet release.

And, while tempting to blame stomping a quaggan, it’s important to remember that correlation is not causation.

Ahahahah I love it. Hey man, the quaggan theory was a far fetched one from the beginning :P

I do believe you are on to something as it is kinda random how far I get before disconnect. Just recently, I was finally able to do 2 attacks in wvw! So with that being said, hopefully I’m getting hit hard as I’m pretty local to the servers.

Thank you, Duckideva. I for one needed that. So I also know that Anet has said they’re working on it, but what exactly can they do in response? And that IPViking is just trippy

It is, been watching it for the better part of the afternoon, and some massive attacks that happened coincided with times that my friends started dropping like flies off the server.

Now, of course not every single person is being affected—you have your anomalies and people that are getting lucky by not being on a “pipeline” being affected (in layman’s terms). Kudos to them.

As for the people that ARE being affected, well. ANet is working on figuring out a solution/defense/how to get it to stop, but I think it’ll take some time, as they’re not the only ones being affected by these spikes. They have to contact outside people and their service providers, get them on board and figure out a solution with them. So they have to wait a little like we do in some aspects.

Generally sucks all around.

Man, if you want to see something that looks like WarGames, right after the computer decides to simulate nuking everything, pause the map (upper right corner of the window) and walk leave it paused for 5-10 minutes, then unpause it. It’s like fireworks, with soupçon of global doom.

Agreed. More the writer in me was just wondering what a company could do in a situation like this… And I’m remembering the attack that took down the SOE network and ALL their MMOs plus the PS3 network a few years back. And this is where I start twitching…

I hope they can fix it soon. And I hope they get enough data to figure out who is doing this. I’ll buy a round in the Reach for everyone if Anet does.

Well in terms of blocking the servers/hosts that have already attacked, sure, they can do everything in the world. But a good DDoS hack is going to be pushing from continuously unique and irrelevant hosts and servers. Therefore, the only way to block is to tigger an auto kick if you try connect a certain # of times is a certain # of seconds (milliseconds). It’s hard to allow everything to be public, but at the same time shut down unique ips.

At the same time, I’m starting to think my quaggan stomp started this whole worldwide war on the internet

I like that idea. Quaggan stomp.

Been watching Viking again. It’s so bad that even they are freezing up trying to keep up with the rate of attacks. Santa Ana, San Rafael, Kirksville and Seattle are the cities I’m seeing under major attack. Considering going to play DA2 until this is over, but honestly I’d miss GW.
