Could my power supply be bad?
before you turn to the power supply I have to ask, did you remove the software for the NVidia and then install the latest software for your radeon card? even if you installed for the new card, the old software could be conflicting with the new.
the freezing and the blacking out sounds like you may need a firmware update as well as a bios update. I’m not an “expert” but I would look into these things first.
how do I update firmware and BIOS? And yes all of my Nvidia stuff is off my computer.
hey I just saw this thread. before I explain how to update that. go to tech support on forums and search “Black Screen Issue (AMD/ATI)” see if that fixes your issue first.
I did actually. I have the application and I re-installed the Catalyst center and drivers. The settings that thread recommended were the default settings to begin with as well :/
Also if it’s to any avail, here’s my system: AMD Phenom 9650 Quad core 2.3ghz
8GB RAM. Powercolor Radeon 7750 and im on windows 8. :O
My honest opinion is that I would call “the geek squad” that works at best buy nearest you and tell them your problem because they might know an easy solution OR they would recommend you bring your computer into the store to do a diagnostics on it to see if it really is your power supply not being able to produce what your graphics card needs. I only have a laptop but I went all out on this one and I lag like hell if im not plugged into a power source. so I know where your coming from.
also, explaining how to update your bios is difficult with text. I’m not even sure I could explain it to you over this clear enough so you don’t make a mistake.
oh. Good. haha. well thanks anyway man, hopefully I’ll figure it out. I mean the game still plays well I don’t get any error messages or BSOD it just lowers the frame rate from amazing to annoying. My card isn’t the greatest but it was better than my dying 8800.
If anyone still might have some insight please let me know. It would be much appreciated.
If it was the power supply, then your computer would most likely shut down after hitting its peak power draw and not being able to maintain that much wattage. I’m not too familiar with AMD Processors, but perhaps it’s bottlenecking the GPU? Also, what brand is the PSU?
It’s a Phenom Quad core.
PSU = Power supply unit, not CPU.
