Hey guys,

MSI gaming laptop that I’ve used for 2 years has packed in. I don’t have the expertise or time to build my own PC (I realise it’s always the cheapest and best value but at the moment unfortunately it’s not an option).

Anyway I need to get up and running in time for HoT release and I’ve found this relatively cheap desktop on ebay – my budget is really limited so I can just afford to buy a HD screen and OS for this computer if I was to get it. Judging by the specs do you guys think it could handle GW2 well? Really appreciate advice!

in short not well. the AMD Althon 860K is not a great processor by any means. its what you would call a middle ground budget CPU to get you by.

For the cost, you can do far better looking at older intel systems. Like a SandyBridge based i5.

I tell people who are on a budget, just buy a used older system. the performance between processing generations is really sad for the price Intel expects everyone to pay. Since IvyBridge the performance jumps have not met the price gap. So if you bought a used Sandybridge system, I would say about 250~, you will be better off.

I disagree. The 860K has similar performance to the Phenom II 965 and that’s at standard clock and this one is OC by 15%. The GTX 750Ti is a modern low end GPU.

Since we don’t know what your dead laptop had for CPU and GPU, it’s tough to give you a guesstimate of it’s relative performance compared to what you had. The 750Ti ranks pretty high compared to mobile GPUs.

It’s not bad in a pinch. But squishy is right, Intel would be a lot better, even an old one.

i5-2500 (non K) true quadcore with a GTX 770 and Win 10 Pro.
