So I have a intel i5 2500k sandy bridge overclocked @ 3.7 GHz…..so my processor fairly good and even outpaces the i7’s that are out…so not really sure i need an upgrade there…

My GFX card currently is a 770, and I am thinking of upgrading to a 980 to help with some fps issues….I sometimes lose frames and go down into 20ish frames even with just around 20 people on the screen

anyone found the 980 to be good, or do you suggest a CPU update?

The 980 is great, but be aware that lots of ppl have had issues with the 980 series, that may need a bios upgrade of your motherboard.

Push your CPU to at least 4.5 GHz and don’t do anything else. You won’t see any gain from upgrading your GPU (a 770 is more then enough to play GW2 on ultra/1080P/60FPS and a new CPU would only net you a 20-30% gain, at best.

GTX 770 will probably work pretty much the same as a newer video card for this game. I suggest if you want more fps, try overclocking your CPU some more. If you really wanna spend some dosh, try liquid cooling your CPU if not already done. Happy gaming!

Intel Core i7 4790K @4.7 GHz, 32 GB 2133 MHz DDR3.
MSI GTX 1080 Sea Hawk EK X 2xSLI 2025 / 11016 MHz, liquid cooling custom loop.
Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB. HTC Vive.

I would strongly suggest OC to around 4.2-4.5Ghz also. As far as the comparison between 770 vs. 980 it will be very noticeable with while using Supersampling in my opinion.
I agree, for now, overclock your CPU and see if you can create some fps from this.

I don’t think you’ll see a massive improvement going to the 980. I have an eVGA nVidia 670gtx Superclocked running underclocked by 20% (Probably overkill). I run at 1080p and most graphics settings maxed and have not had framerate issues. I had to underclock for GW2 to resolve crashing issues. If you are running supersampling, you could try setting it to normal as it’s known to be a pig.

I have an older i7-3930K running the base clock of 3.2G which seems to be more than enough. Don’t remember if I have supersampling enabled though.
