Did I break my graphic card? HELP :-(
Hm, not sure why it would get hot during hibernation, that is odd. But it does sound like maybe your primary GPU may have taken some heat damage. Is the fan spinning fine, clear of dust? Did you power your laptop off and leave it off for ma while to let it fully cool down?
That looks more like a heating issue with the laptop’s graphics card than anything. As Rabbiddog said: check your fans and clear out any dust.
Also avoid setting the laptop on anything that will prevent good air-flow.
Hi,
Yes, fan seems fine (can hear it spin) and at the moment I’m using my ‘power saver’ graphic card to let the other one rest. :S
If it’s a heating issue will it just resolve itself once fully cooled?
Yes, if the GPU didn’t get damaged. When GPUs get too hot they start doing funky stuff like that.
Hopefully the heat didn’t (literally) fry my GPU. Thanks, I think I’m just going to sleep this off to cool down the GPU (and myself). Fingers crossed!
found someone with a similar problem. mine sort of looks like this but has messy, distorted environmental stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDQ9P0QAeak
anyone got any tips or fix? :S
Did you clean out the dust as mentioned? Just being able to hear the fan spin doesn’t mean there’s not dust on on it.
No,the video you shown seems like another problem, drivers probably since it happens straight away when he launches the game.Your prob is definetely a heating issue, and this will happen again,i would look for a way to keep it cool while playing before your laptop dies.
Btw if you’re not already doing it,start monitoring your temps asap with HWmonitor ( mobo temps etc also includes cpu + gpu, basically a all in one) ,Coretemp ( cpu ) ,Gpu-z (gpu).
1 – Use a program to monitor temperature (as suggested above)
2 – Don’t place your laptop on things that obstruct air-flow or the same location for too long. Otherwise, sometimes (depending on fan location) you can use something to lift up the back-end of the laptop, so air can still pass through.
3 – Invest in a laptop-cooling pad. They both serve to raise your laptop, but also add an extra fan to help keep it cool.
4 – Find out what kind of laptop you have and search for videos on how to dissasemble it. Might seem daunting, but a good video, patience and the right tools can help you do it. Then you can clear out any dust that is contained in or near the fan. Alternatively, you can buy a can of compressed air, which might make you able to blow out the dust, without taking apart your laptop.
5 – Don’t have too many things running in the background. A program called Gamebooster can help with this.
lets hope the op does not have a
HP……….
