Guild Wars 2

Ever since GW2 become F2p, downloading the latest patch become really slow and crash every time. Usually i get over 200kb speed but right now i get only 20kb and drop to 0 for no reason then all of sudden “Connection Broken, Retrying”.

I try resetting my router and even getting my roommates to not use the wifi, so i have the internet to myself, but its still slow and crashing.

I saw 2 forum posts saying its cuz game going F2p makes its slow cuz many people are downloading it, so its the Game server side not ours, but I just wanna double check. Is it my internet or Anet side the reason my game cant finish updating.

It took me ages to download the patch from earlier, over an hour for ~400m.

I suspect it’s a bunch of people all downloading the 20ish gig client. Probably taper off at least some after initial rush.

Maybe but I think the game patch is sent from a different server then the game download servers.

Normally I’d assume the same thing, but they way you download the client and install it, and then when you run it it downloads the contents of the .dat file looks exactly the same as an upgrade (to me) only much larger.

GW2 uses a CDN service to deliver patches. It’s possible that your local CDN server is dealing with too many requests, but as a whole, no, the influx of new players will not matter.

You can manually select which CDN server you use by using the -assetsrv command line option.

So its actually my internet the reason its slow, not the new players downloading? Ok I guess, but this never happen before so I guess unlucky day.

I don’t mind the slow update but the constant “Connection Broken, Retrying” is getting annoying and having to close and restart the download again, its seem to reset all my progress in downloading when it happen, is progress being save when Connection Broken? and is there any fix to this?

I have the same problem. Been trying to download for about 8 hours now, nothing. Got nothing. Can’t even get 10mb as it errors out. My internet is fine, btw.

Hey guys first off, thank you all for your answers, but I was able to fix my problem. So yeah its apparently a weird server clutter which happen sometimes to people, and u have to fix by using a “-assetsrv” command to fix it.

So yeah thank your Healix.5819 for telling me about it. I have to find the steps in GW2 websites to learn it.
