I have had to go to my email account to authenticate my login for about 2 weeks. Most of the time the address and city are diffent. Cities that I remember the login has been from have been plymouth, london and kittenheroe. None of the cities are where I’m logging in from. My guild-mates say i should be worried.

I basically want to know why the address and city changes, why it isn’t the location I’m actually logging in from, if a hacker has access to my account and if one does what I need to do to my my account safe.

My email password is completely different to my game account password.
Nothing has been taken, changed or added to my game account that I have noticed nor have I been contacted by other players saying I’ve been spamming/scamming them or otheres they know.

You may have a dynamic IP address. You can look up each address and see if they all belong to your provider, or contact your provider and ask. If you do now have a dynamic IP address, the system will eventually learn the range, and you will stop getting authentication emails.

Good luck.

if city isn’t near you and you don’t have dynamic ip address most likely a hacker running multiple proxy servers is hitting your account that’s how hacker’s do it so they can bypass the login blocks
Most website block an ip address for 24 hrs sometime longer for failed login attempts
Usually take 4+ failed login attempts to get the address blacklisted once it’s blacklisted the hacker probably on a tool like brute force automatically will change to next proxy server the tool is very fast so it’s possible that multiple bruteforce tools was attacking you at the same time and both got hits (access) at the same time. Now you probably wondering how I know this and I’ll be honest I used to talk to a guy from UK that hacked porn site passwords he explained to me how it worked cause i asked him to explain to me how he did it. What told me is he finds a proxy server scanner tons of site on the web that have lists of known proxy servers the scanner he used would then leech those website and find all working anonymous to different country proxies then you load that working list into the bruteforce tool you put in the page for the login of the website load your dictionary and the dictionary can consist of many different things and even logins that may have worked on different websites and press go the tool will try the entire dictionary of possibilities until
1. it gets access or
2. runs out of proxies

Then just repeat i may have left a few steps out but thats a good thing to lol. no reason i be teaching people the entire process but if they wanna know they’ll figure it out without anyone’s help except google……

In conclusion should you be worried oh yes cause I just got my gw2 account hacked 5 days ago just found out today everything i have is gone probably wont get no support until tomorrow

There isn’t a IP to zipcode/city relationship that is easily looked up. I’m not sure what methods/DB ANet uses to map IP to local. And local depends on your ISP. Mine lists my location some 45 miles away. That’s where my ISP’s local net connects to the Internet.

Use http://www.whatismyip.com to see what they list your location, click on more IP information because they search a couple of databases. Now of course if it’s in a different country or state (as long as it’s not NC Interactive’s IP in Austin Tx) then there’s a chance that some shenanigans going on.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

This really is not uncommon but I admire your awareness that you may be seeing unauthorized access. I can tell you that some months ago, a player in England contacted us asking why he was showing log-ins from Northern England, Southern England, Scotland, and Wales! I did some mapping (<3 Britain) and found his alleged “log-in locations” were at least 400 miles apart! So we decided he should contact his ISP and sure enough, they told him that they had a whole range of IPs and that a legitimate log-in may come from anywhere on the island. He was greatly relieved and I had a nice story to tell people about dynamic IPs.

On my account, I see log-ins from my town, from the larger cities around me, and sometimes from a city that’s nearly 100 miles away. As long as I’m using a unique password, watching my log-ins, and making sure that I am receiving them only at the moment I am actively logging-in, then I have confidence the system is working. Were I to see one from too remote a location, I’d be changing my credentials, checking my e-mail account for a possible breach, and contacting my ISP to ask them about the new, alleged “log-in location.”
