I encounter 2 incident that prompt me to contact Gw2’s support recently.

First, when purchasing a super sword skin, I accidentally brought a super greatsword skin. Contact support about switching the skin, but nope, support deny the request. Fine, atleast the skin is account bound and I might use it for one of my alts.

Today I went to purchase a Twilight Arbor medium gloves for my ranger. Because my party is waiting for me in SAB, I am in a rush and brought the light armor gloves instead of medium armor gloves. Contacted support again and again after several hours, support reply that while they like to be able to refund, they cannot do so at this point. So, I am left holding on with light armor gloves that are absolutely useless to me.

Why the heck would you let a medium armor class buy a light armor that is soul bound?

Years ago in another game, LOTRO, I encountered a similar problem. During a festival event I grind enough tokens and silvers to purchase a festival mount. Unfortunately, I purchased a pony, which is only usable by hobbit race, while my character is a human. I was annoyed and contact their support. within 15 mins, a friendly GM contact me and swap the token for me.

Now, thats what I call good support. I was unhappy that their programmer did not do a racial check when purchasing tokens, but the quick fix by their support make the bad experience into a positive one.

After six months of subscription to LOTRO, I was happy enough with my in game experiance that I eventually purchased lifetime membership for 2 accounts. Compare this to Gw2 where aside from launch, I only brought gems with cash once, as a response to culling being fixed in WvW.

Gw2 does not have a subscription, whether I spend cash in it depends heavily on whether I am satisfied with the game or not. The level of support I am receiving however, isn’t making me happy at all.

Sounds to my like your own fault i wouldnt blame anyone else then you. Also if you want fast SAB skin make new character and dont stop for anything just for boss fights thats 6 bauble bubbles in few minutes (dont go 2nd world it takes too much time for 1 bauble bubble). Delete char. make new and repeat and you will get anyskin in 1-2h if you dont mind repetive tasks…..

How often are you going to make these mistakes, relying on others to cover up for them? This thread only you give 3.

Honestly … I’ve personally never made such mistakes in games. But that’s because I think before spending currency.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

My question is – why would you get a refund for not paying enough attention?
If anet did that for everyone, it would be ALL they do.

Pay attention next time, especially with such things. This is neither a game bug nor anything unusual, therefore does not even qualify for support. You made a mistake, own it.

“Gw2 does not have a subscription, whether I spend cash in it depends heavily on whether I am satisfied with the game or not. The level of support I am receiving however, isn’t making me happy at all.”

You sound very entitled.. However what you need to look at is this:

- What happened is your fault. Not the game’s or anet’s.
- You are asking them to do something which is a rare exception to their support process.
The support team most probably have very clear-cut rules about things like this, and if what you are asking for falls outside of the intended support process/guideline – they are fully within their rights to refuse to do what you are asking.

TL;DR

Your fault. Be more careful next time. Stop moaning.

I did the same mistake than you OP, bought the sword skin instead of greatsword, and I won’t blame Anet or support for my own inattention. Wish I could exchange the skin with you lol.
For 2.5 days of 30 min farming it’s not worth the drama.

I think if you bought something from the gem shop, then you’d have a case. Since these kinds of mistakes happen a lot due to players being in a rush or just not paying attention, I doubt ANET has the manpower to fix everyone’s goof ups, you know? You made a mistake. It sucks. Now you can give up or you can farm bauble bubbles for the greatsword; you can continue running dungeons for armor…or you can make forum posts. The choice is yours.

The less you needlessly complain, the more time you can spend reverting the mistakes that you and you alone made.

I noticed the OP was talking about how he spends money based on the perceived quality of the company or staff running the game. I however have a more realistic and different approach. I want something? Well I buy it. If it’s not worth buying, I don’t buy it. That’s it! Also you should really check your gears before buying, maybe this experience will teach you to do that, and stop rushing.

ArenaNet have already stated that they cannot refund mistaken purchases like this.

It is up to each individual to be careful in their in-game purchases to ensure they get the correct items they are looking for. It is not hard to take one extra second and read the descriptions on the piece before purchasing. Use this as a learning experience to take more time and double check before just clicking away.

Why the heck would you let a medium armor class buy a light armor that is soul bound?

THIS is indeed a very good question and it should be considered to change it that way that one cannot buy soulbound armor that has the wrong armor class.
(I cannot think of any case where it would be useful to buy armor (that is soulbound on acquire) that you cannot use with your character. So there would be no need for this option and if you simply could not buy the wrong armor that is soulbound on acquire it could prevent some damage.)

There are command prompts to prevent these situations…. don’t blame support for not fixing your mess because you couldn’t take another 2 seconds to check what you’re buying…

I’ve done it many times, on purpose. I do it when I want the skin only and the character that I want it for is too low level to get to that spot or doesn’t have enough karma. All you have to do then is break the soulbinding, put it in the bank and let your alt pick it up. A lot of people use this soul breaking method to transfer items between characters.

It is sad that ppl in this thread don’t get the point. Happy satisfied customer spend more money. More money spent = more profit = better for the game.

Does Gw2 support have the right to refuse refunding my purchases? Absolutely! I am however, pointing out that if they provide this service, like LOTRO did, it will make me a happy and satisfied customer, who is more willing to drop money into the game.

So apparently the mods think that this thread embarrass ArenaNet somehow and move it into the account issue section. Well done I guess, good job proving my point

Thanks for the tip! I will probably use this method to buy whisper heavy armor for my warrior who is in the vigil.

Soul bound is soul bound, no amount of putting it in the bank is gonna clear that up…

And I think most people do get the point perfectly. It’s just not something that will ever happen. If Anet has to do that for every wrong click it would take up all there time.

Soulbound is not soulbound. ^^ You break it and it becomes account bound, available to all of your alts that can use it.

Honestly, I think this sums it up well. I’m sorry that you’re making errors, but there are game mechanics to prevent the things you’re doing, and if you accidentally ignore those, or choose to operate differently, I really believe it’s not appropriate to ask for (multiple) “do-overs.”

I am sorry that you’ve made the errors, but when the designers take the time and effort to set in-game prevention systems for such mistakes, I think at some point we, as players, need to accept a certain amount of responsibility for our own carelessness.
