Several hours after the traits patch, I’ve been receiving this error every time I attempt to play Guild Wars 2. It says “Disk I/O Error, Guild Wars 2 has been terminated”. Hard drive has 200 gb of free memory and other games on my computer work so I don’t think my hard drive is broken. The game was working perfectly fine right before the issue started. I’m not sure how to fix this, any suggestions?

Having this issue too since about 8 hours ago with 1 toon. I tried to exit from the pvp lobby back to Lions Arch but I get stuck on the LA loading screen and eventually get the popup with the error you mention. I’ve run chkdsk twice with no errors found.

same thing there after leaving game in Divinity Reach, I have try many times to load on different characters but game don’t work.

Edit1:
Game seen to partly work while reinstall and on my main character I was able to travel through Divinity Reach with some graphic issues

Edit2:
After full install of game while trying join Lion’s Arch Error occur again.

Edit3:
It took me two times to create new character because first time game crashes.
Also it seems that this error have something to do with graphic in game, after successful join into Cadelon Forest I could move but some graphic missus again while speaking to NPC

Edit4:
I have try to join The Grove crash occur but after game restart I was able to join game but again graphical issues http://scr.hu/2ikc/lk5q1 while travelling so far it mostly include map and any communication boxes http://scr.hu/2ikc/jpkea
Next I will try going to Lions Arch as I found for now newest contents and stuck place for all my characters that occur this problem also I was unable to even open my character that was waiting there.

Edit 5:
http://scr.hu/2ikc/u85ir and http://scr.hu/2ikc/sfuhh and http://scr.hu/2ikc/l985g and http://scr.hu/2ikc/g2sw2 as you can see there is that error message window and game still running before that appears I was able to see map and chat conversation.

I hope that these information would be useful for someone else to find out how to solve this problem

Hi,

Has anyone tried to repair their game since getting this area in case the new patch introduced a corrupted file?

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but the error still occurs for all of my characters. I have no clue what is causing this but I am able to get into character select and the error occurs upon loading into any map. If anyone has a solution please post it.

Having the same issue since 3 hours.

Played 4 hours ago, no problems. Logged out in LA, restarted the game half an hour later: Crash. I am not even able to get to the character screen. After clicking the Play-button a white screen appears (as usually, right before char selection), in this screen though after approx. 5 seconds the Disk I/O Message opens up and the game closes…

Already checked the my hdd – everythings fine. Other games still running without problems…

EDIT: I just let the GW2Repair run by adding “-repair” to the target. Crashes around 50%. Had a patch after starting launcher then – didnt fix it.

EDIT 2: Copied the Game folder from my external HDD i use usually to my internal one. FIXED IT.

After uninstalling and reinstalling again, I was able to gain access to all my characters and play on them except for the one in the map Drytop (I receive the error message again upon entering that map). Shortly after playing on any character, however, the game freezes and stops working. Whenever I attempt to close the game with my Task Manager or through logging out, my entire computer crashes. I don’t know if this is a separate issue, but I still cannot access the game.

Edit: The reason it was freezing was due to an old, corrupt launcher, so I was able to resolve that. Two of my characters, one in Drytop an the other in Straits of Devastation, will display the error when I try to load into them but the others seem fine. I think it might be because of corrupted files in those maps but I’m not sure.

Sorry to necro a thread from over a month ago, but this issue has just come up for me, and this is the most recent forum post I could find regarding this error type…

I have also had the same problem, several times now. It started about ten days ago: I was in HoTM lobby and the game crashed with the same error message that others are reporting. I tried to log back in, but again received the disk i/o error message after the map failed to load. I have deleted and reinstalled the game several times. I thought it was wise to do so because the same disk i/o error had occurred during download or upon loading the map after d/l. Also, I am unable to repair the client, since this always causes a crash as well.

After taking apart my computer, running antivirus/antimalware and chkdsk (which found two errors and supposedly fixed them), the game was working for about five days with no problems. Suddenly last night, out of nowhere, I tried to waypoint to Plains of Ashford for my guild missions and the same problem occurred and now I cannot get past the map loading screen. I reinstalled and downloaded the game again, but the same thing keeps happening.

I have had a couple minor issues with my HP laptop recently:

1) The CMOS battery had become unattached from the motherboard, which I noticed when I took it apart. I reattached it and reset the date and time. Prior to taking the computer apart, the only indication that something was wrong was that GW2 was crashing with the aforementioned disk i/o error.

2) The DC jack has some issues where I have to wiggle the power cord around to get the battery to charge and/or run off the power from the wall charger. When I do get the battery to start charging, it usually doesn’t remain charging for long, however it doesn’t (usually) consume battery power and will often show “Plugged in, not charging” when I hover my mouse over the battery icon.
This issue has been going on for quite a while, but the only real problem I’ve had is that the laptop occasionally powers down unexpectedly after running the battery down, which is quite rare.

3) There doesn’t seem to be anything seriously wrong with my hard drive, chkdsk notwithstanding, as my files don’t seem to be missing or corrupted, and the only program affected is Guild Wars.

4) I have owned my laptop for 6 years and have had only very minor problems. I cannot afford to buy a new one at this point.

Anyway, I really enjoy the game and would like to continue playing it, but this issue is becoming more and more frustrating to me by the day. I had originally thought this could be a hardware issue with my computer, but after successfully running all the other programs and games, and now reading many other posts on the forums about the same issue, I am skeptical that the problem is solely my machine.

Does anyone have any insight on what this issue could be, or any suggestions for how I might diagnose or fix it? After combing tech support forums and attempting every possible fix I can find, I’m at the end of my rope.

its too late to get sample data from the rest of the thread….. but what harddrive, what AV, and what version of windows. And did this happen following some kind of Windows update?
