So I recently bought Guild Wars 2 (a physical copy) and when I tried to install it, nothing would open. The autoplay won’t open and when I go to My Computer to download the game manually couldn’t find anything there. I tried using other disks and they worked fine. Is this a usual problem because I saw some people with the same issue. Plus is there any other issue other than downloading the game through the internet? I really hate having to wait hours to play the game.

Its likely due to the type of disc drive you have. Discs can have different formats the information is stored in, and many discs these days are dual layer discs meaning they hold more data than a standard DVD.

Older DVD drives can have trouble reading newer formats and dual layer discs. There a couple of options;

First is to check for a firmware update for the disc drive from he manufacturer. Firmware is the basic software inside the drive that tells it how to work. Some companies release updates to firmware to incorporate new disc format info so the drive can read them. Please note however, that updating the firmware incorrectly can make the drive inoperable. So caution is advised, and fully ensure you are checking for the exact model of drive you have.

Alternatively you could try replacing the drive itself with a newer model. Drives these days are extremely cheap, and can be had for £20.

And as you said you could download the game client from the web and install that way. It does take a while but it doesn’t involve any money or fiddling with the disc drive.

Final note; Even if you install off the disc you will still need to wait before playing. The disc version is not the most updated version of the game, so you would need to patch the game fully before playing. Recent additions to the game means that this could take some time as the size of the updates have been quiet large in recent times.

Best of luck.
