Does the Mac client have securom it?
Why would they need securerom?
Guild wars 2 is a mmorpg with one license is tie to a single person. Anet can detect if an account is loggin at multiple places and most people would not like the idea of sharing gear and gold with another player. Anet can check the integrity of the client to monitor basic tampering. Basically, forcing a player to be online with one key per person and the client having the ability to check tampering is a much better way to stop piracy than any drm.
because of the following article:
http://transgaming.com/news/transgaming-utilize-sony-dadcs-securom-technology
which indicates that "TransGaming will utilize Sony DADC’s SecuROMâ„¢ digital rights management (DRM) solution for all video game titles enabled through TransGaming’s Cider portability engine for Mac games. "
I would love a red response here to indicate yay or nay on this.
A red response probably isn’t all that likely given the nature of the question and how high in importance it ranks compared to people who are having actual technical issues.
That is an article from 2008, which is 5 years ago…
What loseridoit said is completely correct, it wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever for securom to be utilised in GW2 since there are no restrictions placed on the install and the ability to run the game depends only on you being able to enter in a valid account username and password…
Given that it impacts potential and current customers I would not underestimate the importance level. Regardless either of our personal opinions on the matter is not relevant to the question that was posed.
I agree with the logic behind what loseridiot said. That does not make it correct no matter how much I would like it to be the case. If anyone knows for a fact one way or another I would like to hear it. Speculating isnt helpful one way or another.
Cheers.
EDIT – changed words to sound less hostile. Hostility perceived is not intended.

All good, I completely understand how annoying it can be to have people improperly perceive you as being hostile.
I’d like to know the answer to this as well. We’ve got some conflicting answers here…
After reading the article posted above, I am curious to know the answer to this. I have several friends with macs that I would love to convert to gw2, but not sure if this is an issue to them. One who I imagine this would be a deal breaker for. Wonder if someone with running the Apple port could answer or is it something only known to the developers?
Also, I do agree with loseridiot’s logic, between the install key, client, and two-factor auth adding the DRM seems unnecessary, but that hasn’t stopped people before. :-)
can someone go look in the game folder for it? I think in Spores’ case, it was installed in the game folder. If I remember correctly in the “p_drive” folder.
I could be mistaken about spore though. So take that with a grain or two of salt.
There are definitely no Securom files anywhere either in the cider GW2 application support folders or within the contents of the GW2.app
Thanks fox. That’s probably as close to a definitive answer as I’m going to get.
