NCSoft’s last Mac port was also Transgaming, and it was littered with problems that caused the game to crash almost constantly:
-Memory leaks
-“Assertion Failure” dialogue boxes that closed the client
-“Do you wish to debug? Yes/No” dialogue boxes that closed the client
-Crashes that caused millions of page-outs from RAM

Transgaming was very, very quiet when spoken to about a possible update and/or fix, and in the long run, the community was told that Transgaming had no intent to fix the problems causing the crashes “in the forseeable future.” That isn’t the game, that’s the Cider wrapper Transgaming uses.

Basically, I’d like to ask the fine folks at ArenaNet to keep a firm pressure on Transgaming for updates and support. Past experience with their ported games has led to frustration, hundreds of reported crashes, and an unsettling silence from their end.

This is a very valid point which should not be overlooked Transgaming needs to step up their game if there is not to be a native client down the road.

I think ArenaNet is doing just fine. As matter of a fact, Transgaming is not the main problem. Porting windows game to Mac is just pain… Unless you are using Unreal Engine 3. The way Transgaming made Guild Wars 2 work on Mac is freaking awesome. Apple just needs to update their outdated OpenGL driver to help with performance…

I do hope ArenaNet and Transgaming to step up and keep this effort alive…

But history does repeat itself… if it didn’t, we’d never use that phrase now would we?

I never said they were doing poorly. The history of NCSoft and Transgaming has been:
-Make Mac port of NCSoft game using Cider Wrapper
-Never release another update to the Cider Wrapper

I’ve seen the “progress” of Transgaming for the past three years and it has not been pretty. Report all bugs you find and be sure to keep ArenaNet in the know, because if they don’t push on Transgaming, you’ll never see a fix. Most of the problems you’re going to see with this port will come from the Cider wrapper. It’s the cause of the loss in performance, it’s the cause of the memory leaks, and I’m willing to bet we’ll start seeing Assertion Failure dialog boxes soon.

blah blah blah blame them blah blah blame them, when it comes down to it if the dev’s want their product to not have problems then its up to them to make that happen.

Anet will have to learn to code around bad code from transgaming like web programers have to program around IE, if it comes down to trans gaming not trying hard enough then its up to NC soft to put their foot up transgaming’s but.

its not who to blame but how important supporting the mac really is to a game like this.

I think we are all hoping this is the stepping stone for a native Mac client if the interest is high enough.
