Hi everybody, i noticed a huge fps breakdown while playing wv3, i wonder if there’s something i can do about it. I tried playing at the lowest graphic settings, but 1st i don’t really like it, 2nd fps gain is quite low compared to higher grapic options. The worst situation is when more than 100 players are in the same area, like keeps, i start losing fps even if i’m far from the battle (aside from skill lag). My internet broadband is not that good, but i don’t think that’s the reason of my low fps. It’s a bit disappointing, i assembled my pc 10 months ago with an intel i7 3770, a sapphire 7870 ghz edition and a crucial m4 ssd, and i usually run at 25-40 fps in LA and 10-30 fps in wv3, it’s not possible! can someone explain me if there’s a bottleneck in my hardware or it depends from my graphics settings?

I’m going to assume that you haven’t overclocked your 3770 at all. You are getting lower frames than expected in WvW. I would peg your system to get 20-25 in the scenario you described above. The CPU is your bottleneck even though you have a top tier CPU. The game’s engine was never designed for the kind of stress WvW creates for a system. To get better performance, overclock your CPU and maybe start boycotting the gem system until performance issues are addressed. Nothing gets things done faster than when you cut off a source of income.

set culling to character limit: highest, texture limit: low
ur other graphics settings can be set to highest except shadows(high) supersampling(native) and reflections (terrian and sky). ur gpu should be able to handle that. (1920×1080)

run some monitoring software ot check ur gpu and cpu usuage aswell as their clock rates tomake sure they are being used correctly. Also keep an eye on ur temps.

Your cpu can be OC’d slightly even though tis not a k spec. So if u want a tiny boost in perofrmance u can icnrease the clock speed by about 300mhz. Look on overclock.net for more info on how to clock.

ur fps in wvw zergs should be between 20-25 in most zergs, possibly as low as 15 in truly massive zergs, at which point u should turn texture culing to lowest and character limit to high (down from highest) which may get u back above 20.

The GW2 game engine cant handle large groups of people dispite the games big selling point being large scall pvp. This was a massive mistake by Anet when they chose to cut corners by re-using the old GW1 engine and just altering it. They shuld have made or used an entirly different engine.

I find it disturbing that 90% of the people who are on this forum for performance issues find that their only recourse is to overclock their CPU’s.
Even people with high end systems NEED to oc their i7’s/FX’s in order to get the game to run somewhat acceptable.
Anet better wake up and smell the coffee because the 5770k isnt going to be stock 6ghz.
Until the engine is optimized there isn’t anything anyone can do and even worse is that the game will probably never be optimized and will never run well even on that next gen 5770k.

I agree with you, but as I’ve said before over clocking is the only thing we can control. We can’t go in and optimize the engine and per the nvidia employee post, if its true, Anet has done little to nothing as far as working with nvidia and amd to improve performance, which I have a hunch it’s true because there was only one driver update on the amd front that enabled crossfire with gw2
