Up until recently I’ve had no issues running gw2. Framerate has always been smooth and over 30 fps.

In the last few days I’ve noticed a large drop in fps, down into the 20s, and lower when rotating the camera. I’ve done some basic checkout and it appears that all hardware is working correctly and other programs run normally. I’ve restarted, cleared out background tasks, and implemented the low fps tips from this forum but nothing has helped.

Is anyone else having trouble? Might there have been a recent patch that may have changed some graphics settings?

Hardware is as follows (laptop):
i7-2670QM 2.2 GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6900M (2GB)
8GB ram
GW2 installed on 500GB HDD, 60% free space

Also, memory usage and cpu usage don’t appear to be capping out (~1.5GB, 30% CPU). I do see my disk usage as pretty high, over 1MB/sec while playing GW2, but I’m not sure what’s normal there.

Dunno what Anet has done to make performance drop as of late however i can tell you that a 8 thread CPU such as your own will cap out in GW2 when its usuage shows ,at lowest, 30%.
Anything above that just means more of GW2’s 50 od threads are being utilized more than normal.
2 to 3 of GW2’s threads are used for main performance, once one of those is maxed out in terms of what your CPU can manage ..the FPS drops. Your CPU monitor however will not show 100% usuage ,,as its only being maxed out on one thread (not core).

thats not my experience, but maps/player load may vary.

It seems like it’s somewhat true. I do see one cpu getting stressed significantly more than the others, somewhere around 80%, but the other cpus do get used when I’m stressing the game out.

One kinda curious thing though, I see that my max frequency (using resource monitor) looks to be capping out at about 70%. I’ve got my power settings on max performance so I thought that should be running a bit higher. I’m still not sure cpu is really what’s limiting me here but that’s a little odd.

the math is.

100/No.Threads on CPu x 2.5

That will give you the lowest cpu usuage you will ‘likely’ see when you notice a fps drop.
The highest it can be is 100% becouse bassicaly ..the more on screen ..the more work each of GW2’s threads need to do. But that highly unlikely unless you run a 2thread cpu. Its realisticaly gunna be around the x3 or x3.5 mark so..

100/No. threads on cpu x 3.5

For me its

100/12 × 2.5 = 21
100/12 × 3.5 = 29

Which is inline with what i see 95% of the time. ofcourse it will vary depending on what else you have running at the time usinadding to extra CPU usuage.
