Q:
Early 2011 MPB
A:
I’ve been running on Early 2011 MBP. It runs a lot smoother than via Wine or a similar program. While a little choppy, the vast majority of the game runs pretty smoothly. The only time it becomes very difficult to play is in large gatherings of players, where it gets rather chuggy. Overall I’m impressed, and it could be a lot worse
Xalachi → Human Mesmer
Nemidas → Asura Elementalist
What are your MBP’s Specs?
How many FPS do you get during the majority?
How many do you get in highly populated areas?
Thanks!
I have the higher model (early 2011 mbp) ATI 6750 1gb with 16gb ram. The FPS is decent somewhere around 15-20 but drops to 10 or less in Wvwvw or 5v5 clashes. You get a smoother game play in Bootcamp atm with 2011. Hopefully Anet will update their mac client.
15" MBP with Hi-Res screen.
2.2 i7 Processor
4Gb RAM
Radeon HD 6750
- REALLY good performance but the fans run near constantly. If you have an iMac use that instead. I have a 27" iMac which has lower specs than the laptop, but they both run it on the highest graphics settings with no problems. The difference is that the fans on the iMac don’t run (or at least run very quietly)
i’m curious if you checked the fps on a low pop area or was this done on wvwvw or spvp? we have the same spec yet mines not really playable at highest settings. can you take a screenshot of your fps with you in action?
Memory 10 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Really?
15-inch (1440 × 900)
2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
750GB Momentus XT Hybrid SSD
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB graphics
OS X 10.8.2
I’ve upgraded my machine somewhat, specifically the RAM and the Hard Drive.
My GW2 performance is pretty stable at 50-60 FPS throughout the game. On lowest settings, I have spiked as high as 80 FPS. I generally run the game on custom low-medium settings to get a combination of preferred textures, graphics and performance.
I was getting about 5 frames more per second under Windows. Not enough of a difference to go back to using Boot Camp.
With highest resolution settings I get between 20-30 FPS in low populated areas.

Game runs decent with 25-50 fps (depends on location and how much is going on) with Auto-Detect preset IF i run it in window mode at 1440×852.
If i change it to Fullscreen FPS crashes down to below 20. And i noticed that with having Chrome running in the Background and a Site open that has loaded some kind of Flash content the performance gets even worse.
So close all the kitten before playing.
To update all you early 15" MBP users..
I played on the Mac client with lowest settings and I got around 15-25 fps in all areas
I took Xandman’s advice and installed boot camp; the difference is night and day
On a combo of low/med settings I am constantly getting 56-60fps .
V-sync enabled seems to keep it at 60 about 99% of the time.
This was tested in populated areas but no large scale WvW yet
My system specs are listed in my OP,
Early MBP bootcamp is a must.
I have an early 2011 17" MBP and I tend to get on average 30-50 fps depending on the area I’m in. Lions Arch I go down to 20 fps sometimes and in large events with a lot of people in wvw I get around 20 fps. Here are some screen shots of my system specs and a fight in Harathi Hinterlands.

Did you change your graphics driver? Or just used the Apple drivers that came with bootcamp?
Originally I updated my graphics drivers using ATI’s Catalyst install manager…. I got horrible results 10-15 fps at lowest settings.
After I reverted to apple’s software drivers I saw a major increase in my performance. It should be noted I’m running everything on lowest to maximize fps ( game doesn’t look very pretty), but I am able to play properly and that is all that I care about.
Also I plan to buy a Coolermaster Note-U3 cooling pad for gaming as my MBP runs very hot even with fan settings changed to 4500rpm
According to my research the Coolermaster Note-U3 does a great job of keeping MBP’s cool.
I can confirm that by using Apple drivers instead of using ATI’s driver from their site or the Beta drivers (recommended by other sites) does a noticeable increase in fps especially in WvWvW. I don’t know why as it doesn’t make any sense newer drivers should be better but for this game its not.
