Effect LOD issue
Could you post your system specs including OS version and what graphics settings you are using in-game?
Ty, Kyllaa – I appreciate your help.
Windows Vista Home Premium, service pack 2
Intel core i7 CPU
12.0 GB
64-bit
Nvidia GeForce GTS 250
Are you able to turn on best texture filtering?
Verify that your anti aliasing and 3d settings are application controlled using your video card control software.
Post back if any of that works or not, then we’ll try something else if needed.
Yes, I can turn on best texture filtering. Done – no difference.
For video card antialiasing settings:
Antialiasing -FXAA: On (only other option is Off)
Antialiasing -Gamma correction: On (only other option is Off)
Antialiasing -Mode: Application-controlled
Antialiasing -Setting: Application-controlled (this is grayed out, cannot change)
Antialiasing -Transparency: Off (other options are Multisampling and Supersampling)
Other 3D settings:
CUDA -GPUs: All (only option)
Maximum pre-rendered frames: Use the D application setting (other options 1,2,3,4)
Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration: Single display performance mode (other options Multiple display and Compatibilty performance)
Power management tools: Adaptive (other option Maximum performance)
Texture filtering -Anisotropic sample optimization: Off (other option is On)
Texture filtering -Negative LOD bias: Allow (other option is Clamp)
Texture filtering -Quality: Quality (other options High Quality, Performance, High performance)
Texture filtering – Trilinear optimization: On (other option Off)
Threaded optimization: Auto (other options On, Off)
Triple buffering: Off (other option Off)
Vertical Sync: Use the 3D application setting (other options On, Off, Adaptive, Adaptive half refresh rate)
Here are some more pics so you can see what it’s doing. It looks like the spell effects are on overdrive, fire splashes over the entire screen, a small puff of smoke smothers field of view, whites are too white, things are “too shiny”.
There’s nothing wrong with your system…its just the absurd spell effects when multiple people use skill s at the same time, its just way way way to much.Especially as playing melee you can barely see your own character or what it is hes doing in all that chaotic mess.Yes anet its a chaotic mess to be looking at,tone down those spell effects allready or give us that kitten slider…

No.
I’ve been playing since launch and never seen it like this. This change happened suddenly with the last update implementing the Effect LOD option.
I’ve the same problem since the “August 6th Update”. First time I saw this bright shining was while doing the daily Minigame (Santum Sprint).
While fighting enemies it’s really bad, I can’t even see the red circles on the ground… Tried to change graphics settings with no results.
I have ALWAYS had issues seeing boss ‘wind up’ animations before big attacks. Especially with the burning animation effect stacked on the boss by Guardians or Elementalists.
Please give us a slider or a way to tone that down so I can better see (and not guess) when to dodge!
