Error 42 since new patch

you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved log in/password and in-game settings.
To access this:
1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.
Follow those instructions TO THE LETTER. If that doesn’t work then come back and say so because you have a genuine problem which needs to be figured out
Just tried your fix, still getting Error 42:0:9001:4347
Build is 36233, if that is at all pertinent.
I will try again later tonight on a friend’s network to confirm 100% it is not an issue on my network’s part (as AT&T can be… difficult).
Thanks though! Will keep this updated.

You could try the stuff there?
Honestly the server is under a DDoS attack right now anyway, so you wouldn’t be able to play -_-

Yep, https://twitter.com/GuildWars2/status/489558249004617732 . You’ll just have to wait it out until the DDoS stops.
Tried all of these as well earlier to no avail.
Oddly enough I just tried to log in again and randomly it worked totally fine. Anyone have any insight as to why this happened so I can avoid it in the future?
Thanks again for the quick replies guys.

It is entirely possible that is was because of the DDoS that you couldnt log in – its been going on for over 12 hours and it affects people differently. I know a lot of people who experience continual disconnects from the game, whereas for me i dont ever get disconnected but instead i experince frequent rubber banding, skill lag, and get stuck on terrain. So honestly, i wouldnt worry about it since it is fine now.
An update — running into the same problem again. There doesn’t seem to be anything anywhere on DDOS attacks today, so I’m beginning to think that this is due to another issue.
Any suggestions?

File a support ticket :S
When exactly does the error show up? Like, does the launcher appear then let you enter your details then deliver an error message after you click login?

Exactly this. Launcher appears, enter info, click log in — error 42. Going to file a ticket, thanks.
