Yesterday (23.11.) when I was heading to do some spvp to Heart of the Mists, I suddenly got a game crash. After that I got crashes every time I restarted the game withing a minute of logging in. I rebooted my system and reinstalled the game it was working again for the rest of the evening, I was even able to play spvp. Today though, the same happened again. I went to play spvp and same crashing started. Reinstalling did not help and rebooting only helped for a while until it started to crash suddenly again. When it starts to happen it doesn’t matter what zone I am in and sometimes it happens on loading screens. Usually the game pops up the error report dialog but sometimes it crashes without it.

I don’t know if Heart of the Mists actually has anything to do with the crashes or if it is just a coincidence. This started happening very suddenly, I’ve played the game since launch and it happened for the first time yesterday. I have no idea why. All other games work fine with no problems what so ever.

I won’t bet my head for it, but every crash I could remember had that same exception code c0000005; Memory at address xxxxxxxx could not be read. The address is every time different, but often it’s very low address, like 00000008 or 00000000 in the lastest crash, smells like a pointer error x).

I’m running with following system:
AMD Phenom 9850 BE
Nvidia 9800GTX
Asus M4A78-E
4GB RAM
Windows 7 64bit.

I have not ran a memory test but I find it very unlikely to be a memory, or other hardware related error as I’ve not faced any problems with any other games or programs.

Pastebin of the error report: http://pastebin.com/8SQqDjuT
Posting it also below, happened on loading screen to WvW.

Caused by overlay programs; afterburner, prcecisionx, fraps, etc. Hasn’t happened to me or anyone else I know that uses afterburner, and haven’t seen an end-all fix on these forums either.

All I can suggest is a clean install of video drivers.

Yes, I’m using Fraps. I’ll test without it soonish and see if it helps.

Hi Dorden,

See the reply I just posted to this thread:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Crashes-to-BSOD-while-playing-GW2/

Since you have an Nvidia card, you might have that problem too. Unfortunately, I don’t know if it’s possible to uninstall the Windows update in question, but if you have System Restore turned on and can turn back the clock to prior to this recent update, you might be able to fix this somewhat easily.

I uninstalled Fraps and the game haven’t crashed yet. I’ll have to test for longer period of time to be sure it was the culprit, though. I’ll report back in a day or so.

I have experienced the same issue since game launch. My ArenaNet.log is full of Memory address crash errors. I tried trimming my timings back to 9 from 7 and that did not work. I ran MemTest and no errors.

I find it interesting that you point out the overlay programs because I run precision. I am going to try to uninstall precision and play the game. I will report back if I crash.

Thanks

None of the above worked. Nor did trimming my RAM timings back to 9 from 7. MemTest86 produced no errors.

What finally fixed it for me was setting Anti-Aliasing from FXAA to None. This can be found in Game Options → Graphic Options: Advanced Settings.

Hope it works for you

Uninstalling Fraps seems to have worked for me, the game no longer crashes.

Edit: Okay the game decided to crash in spvp loading screen just after I posted this.

I haven’t used FXAA at any point (just makes the image blurry) so that can’t help me, too bad.
