A bit of background before I delve into the details, I recently upgraded my computer, made sure all my driver’s were up to date then installed Guild Wars 2. It ran perfectly for the first week, but now I’m getting extremely high latency spikes, something which never happened on my previous computer.

ping www.guildwars2.com -t

I live down in New Zealand, so I can understand 200-300ms, but almost 2000?

Anyway, its making Guild Wars 2 unplayable, though I do get the occasional latency spike on other games I play as well. Am I looking at a bad driver update or is it something else I’ve missed?

For starters this is not the correct way to test your connection, you need to get the ip from the server you play on by typing /ip in chat this will give you the correct ip then you need an app called trace rout or use pingpath in windows command line then post the results you problem will most likely be high ping from one of the many hopes your packets take to get to the game servers or packet loss now when your test gets to the final ip the one you get ingame you will get blocked and the test will time out this is normal for security reasons. It does not mean the game is having issues or Anet servers are bad it mean Anet’s security system are working properly

Right, well I did what you said. Typed in /ip, did a tracert via command prompt. It timed out like you said and my pings were how they were on my previous computer, low 200s.

However I don’t feel like that is a valid ping, which accurately shows how the game should act under those circumstances. The 2000ms pings seem to be more likely to be causing that.

I’m using a wireless connection, but plan to try using a wired connection to see if there are any differences.

They were also doing server maintenance about an hour ago when I logged out so this may be what is causing your Issue at this time not sure how long this will take but maybe it will improve in a couple of hours there was warning messages across the screen worming of connection issues while the maintenance was going on.

It wasn’t the maintenance. I was playing prior to the maintenance starting, and it was probably worse off before it started than it was while it was ongoing.

More recent trace routes have shown that the packets are struggling to leave New Zealand servers. Its not my end specifically, but more so my ISP at this time.

Thanks for the help, anyway.
