I just purchased Guild Wars 2 about an hour ago, and the game is downloading at a painfully slow rate, in fact, it’s still at 0% completed with 264k+ files remaining. I’ts going at about a rate between about 90 kb/sec and 150 kb/sec. I’ve reset my modem and router multiple times. I’ve disabled the firewall and I’ve been running in administrator mode. Loading anything else on the internet seems to be working normally. Are there any problems with the servers right now? At this rate it will take weeks to download this game, and I’m not quite sure why it’s downloading this slow.

I as well am having this same issue with the downloader. My connection can handle about 3.5 megabytes per second yet I’m only getting about 100 kBps.

Check with your ISP do they throttle your speed when they detect large downloads, also if you using WiFi try connecting with a cable,

Ankaa, go to speedtest.net and run a speed test to Dallas, Texas and select SoftLayer as the provider. That will give a rough estimate.

Having problems too.

Just downloaded Far Cry 3 (But steam ran out of keys, so I can’t even play it, LOL), with around 7.1 mb/s constantly, but Guild Wars 2 is downloading with about 40-400 kb/s, jumping a lot in between, so something must be wrong ^^’

@EDIT – Wow, I peaked at 800 kb/s, amazing :o

I am reinstalling Guild Wars 2 because I uninstalled it a time ago, but the time is now 5:57 PM in the UK, and I started the Downloader at 2:53 PM.

16%. Downloading: 1,539,60 MB (it’s going up so it’s changing). (120 KB/s) Files remaining 103,877 (this is going down)

Run a quick speed test to Dallas, Texas, United States and see what speeds you would be getting regardless.

The file the installer app is downloading is over 18gigs so be patient it takes some time or you could try this, it might be a little faster. Right click on the GuildWars2 shortcut. In properties, in the target field add to the command line -image you want it to look something like this

“C:\Games\Guildwars2\gw2.exe” -image

Just add the -image after the quotation mark and don’t changed anything between the quotation marks then apply and double click to start the game this may pull the gw2.dat file from a different server then the the installer app gets it from and may be faster if it’s not being bog downloaded with to many uses trying to download the game. Just remember to edit the command line and remove the -image because the next time you start the game it will download the game over again. I’m not sure this is any faster so try at your own risk.
