Well at least a Fov slider

Didn’t really have a problem before, but this is a nice change and I will leave it on. Now that I’ve had a taste I want more. It would be great to have a slider, which I would probably max out.

Much much better on my 27 inch 16:10 monitor. I also tested performance in multiple locations and saw no significant performance hit.
To anyone who did see a performance hit I suggest you avoid a busy location for testing. Also, its best to logout prior to each fps check, as fps tend to drop after you have been in game awhile.

Great addition, thanks. Maybe if you imlement it add the option on video settings of the game too.

I made i little video showing water reflection problem. Hopefully it helps.
Here is the video link: http://youtu.be/TV2BhlNtG0M
Other than that it looks good. Sometimes I have got nausea while playing, since I tend to jump around on cities while chatting with friends on vent or waiting them.

I like it and I’m thankful for what you guys have done… but its barely noticeable. I feels like its 5 degrees or less. It does work though and it looks great. Fully functional and no issues at all. But I would honestly kill for an extra 10-15 degrees minimum 25-35 if you love us. A slider would also be very cool.
Again, it works, no issues, great start… a little more please?

I personally didn’t have a problem with the old FOV, but the new one is nice. I’m in favor of it.

I’m on a 1080p monitor and I love the new FOV setting.
Now I just wish I could reposition the camera a little so half of my screen wasn’t filled up with a shot of the ground directly behind my character.

Now, It’s OK with the FOV.
But, the game need transparancy when there are wall collision.
The camera move when my character smash-up a wall is bad for pvp gaming.

This new FOV reduces my already poor performance. I am on a low end system, but I’m mainly wondering: is this change also also CPU dependent? I know the game uses more CPU than GPU, but this change makes me think it could be GPU based, and I could simply upgrade my graphics card to offset the frame rate hit (much easier than buying a new motherboard and cpu). Any developers wanna comment?

Did some comparison, and it really is much improved.
I do think there’s a small performance hit, but some casual FPS tests didn’t show much if any real difference (maybe 32 FPS down from 35 FPS maxed out and with SweetFX on a GTX 660 Ti).
But even so, it’s totally worth it. Thanks….. this was much needed.
Now…how’s about that first-person view, pretty please ? =)

WOW. No, just…WOW!
I can’t even begin to tell you how much of an improvement this is.
I mean, I can actually see things to my left and right. In heated battle, I can actually see what’s going on around me from the top-down. It really simplifies things.
I can’t say this enough: THANK YOU!

It looks better but:
1- Something is messing up the reflections. (not just the water reflection)
2- Some invisible stones. (umbra issue)
Now all i want is some way to change the color from AoE circles. (colorblind here)

Very nice improvement. Thanks so much. I can see what I am doing a little better now. There is a sky, and the tops of your beautiful buildings are visible. I will definitely be taking a look around this world with renewed interest. You’ve done a service to your customers and are a great credit to your artists. Smiles all around. An improvement on the vertical field and a bit of work on the camera adjusting to collision objects are certainly warranted for a plus/plus mark. Go superior and adjust the camera closer to the character so we can see in front of us and you will have done justice to your amazing game world and artistic team. We want to see it ALL in all it’s glory. Nice job!

After being away from the game for a while, I decided to try out the beta. And wow, my widescreen 16:9 monitor is being put to good use. As a maxed height Norn, it was pretty clunky. But with just this FoV change, it’s made me want to play the game again(even the Halloween event alone wasn’t enough to do that).

This is why it’s not just about zooming out. FOV is about the angle of the view frustum, not the frustum’s starting point.
Great move ArenaNet. I’d love to see some actual UI to control all this fully, but a great start.
This new FOV reduces my already poor performance. I am on a low end system, but I’m mainly wondering: is this change also also CPU dependent? A larger FOV will of course have a performance hit. The clipping planes are now further out and so more objects are visible. This will inevitably have a hit on both CPU & GPU. You’re loading more resources and putting more onto the graphics card.
Arguably this is why this change needs to be on a slider, so that users can control it to their tastes.

I like the wider field a whole lot more!
Could y’all please offer the option of shifting the camera up, so there’s a bit more sky and less ground? It still feels a little claustrophobic, and the character thrown too far forward (the top of his head should not hit at or above the centre of the screen at full zoom-out).
I understand that some of that is for pvp (allowing us to see folks moving behind us without having to shift to a top-down view) but allowing us to adjust that would help.
Thank you, though, for the changes you’ve made! I’m sure reflections will be fixed once they get the feedbacks they need.

Love it! Amount of visible ground is essential for pvp side of this game so please leave it as it is – great

I’ve also noticed the drop in performance since loading this and the halloween patch. Making things like WvW battles and big events difficult even though my set up has no problem running it normally.
However the change to FoV is pretty good, just needing a 1st Person view now in my opinion.

This is a massive improvement. I’d still love to see
a) A FoV slider
b) More camera positioning options
But this is a huge step in the right direction – thank you very much

I haven’t had problems with the old FoV myself, but I must say that this one feels more natural would definitely use it over the old one.

It’s not working for me, it’s saying the path isn’t valid in the target box. I have:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe”-testVerticalFov
No workie. Tried with and without quotes and even inside of quotes.

This looks a lot better!
On my NVidia GTX 580 GW2 runs at least 30 FPS, even with the advanced vertical FoV on 1920×1080.

YES! Thank you for testing this and looking into increased FOV options.
I personally am not part of the category of people who feel actual physical discomfort from a narrow FOV, but I do find low FOV highly annoying as I’m very attached to my spatial awareness and dislike too much of my character taking up space on the screen in MMO’s. So at launch playing a Norn was a rather claustrophobic experience, something that was partially relieved by the increase in max camera distance that you implemented earlier, but I still didn’t quite have the “screen space real estate” that I would have liked to have.
With this new proper FOV for widescreen monitors I find myself with a much more comfortable view. Some people might look at the screenshots and go, “meh, what’s the big deal, it’s only a small change in view,” but for me the difference in experience is huge.
I haven’t played around with it long enough yet to properly see if there are any glitches that result from this change, but if I find any I will update my post about it. I just wanted to post how happy I am about this change first.

You need to insert a blank after the second quotation mark. try copy this:

This is just simply awesome. My eyes don’t strain anymore and I can get a better view of the amazing surroundings, something I was having a hard time with earlier!
Going to second what a couple people have been saying already: Anything to make it first person would be great!

1680×1050 (16:10) 22" Monitor and the picture looks slightly squashed left/right. Assuming the FOV is currently set to 16:9 ?
Camera position remains a little frustrating also.

Amazing, and goes a long way towards fixing the camera.
As can be seen by people’s screenshots in here, smaller characters are positioned too high on the screen. If the camera can be pointed in such a way to place the character closer to the bottom of the screen at high/max zoom on top of these FoV changes, it’ll be perfect.
I also see that someone had visual issues with reflections. I play with them off and have noticed no graphical side effects. Turning on reflections, it looks like they get skewed weirdly at the sides of the screen, but it isn’t very noticable at the center of the screen.

How to put it with “/clientport 80”?
“C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe” -testVerticalFov /clientport 80
Is this format correct?

Please arenaNET put this as a OPTION, not forced!
This option seems to drop FPS considerably.
I mean i tested it out in diferent locations with low and normal (what i use normal) graphics settings;
The FPS LOSS is something from 7 to 9 FPS.
As much as i like this new feature , please put this as a option;
Im running a ATi radeon 5650m (laptop) latest drivers, and im sure im not the only one running this game on a laptop.
This could ruin our whole gameplay experience, since some of us are running this game on bare-minimum settings, and this option (if forced) would drop us below that ‘floating line’
Cheers!
