fps drop with patch
It’s quite possible due to the massive influx of players on the servers, so I would give it a week to see if it goes back to normal.
same here. pre pacha had always 30+ FPS even in zerg. Now my fps drops to 10 in zerg and the game is unplayable.
Mac osx 10.9
It’s especially the case with WvW because they’re having problems with Edge of the Mists at the moment and there are a LOT of people trying to gain access into WvW.
Also just a tip – posting which version of OSX you have isn’t that helpful. Issues caused by your version of OSX are more likely to be external to the game itself e.g. the launcher and things that have to render in game using external things like the BLTP and the TP. So it’s probably more helpful if you post things like your graphics card, what kind of mac you have, your RAM and processor etc.
FPS dropped to an unplayable level for some PvE events as well – It was at 1-4 FPS at Tequatl and the Karka Queen post-patch (Around 15-20 FPS pre-patch).
Mac OS X 10.9.1
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB Ram
Jade Quarry
I am experiencing the same just even worse. I’m on a Macbook pro 2.3ghz i7 16gb ram, ssd, latest platform with NVida 750m 2gb gpu.
Before patch at 2500×1400 medium settings I run at 90fps in small scale and 1v1, 40 in zergs and 20 in full server blobvsblobvsblob.
Now after switching down to 1080p and from medium to low standing still 40fps moving around alone 20 fps in a zerg vs zerg 5 fps.
Even LA is creeping at extremely low frame rates now.
Our borders are full across the boarder at this time normally so its no change in load. This is gfx issues.

Same thing here. I just got 1 fps in WvW, clashing with a zerg. Yesterday I had 25 fps with no issues even having 3 zergs go head-first into each other. It’s not just in WvW either, it’s pretty much everywhere. Whatever you did in this patch, please revert it or the game is dead to me.
I’ve played since headstart, I don’t want to see GW2 die like this.
MacBook Pro 2.2ghz i7 8gb ssd w/AMD Radeon 6750M 1GB
(and yes, I am running it on low graphics settings on everything).
How are your FPS in placed like LA? I can’t login to check myself at the moment. I’m curious if it is a WvW thing or global.
I went from 40 at 2500×1400 medium to around 10 at 1080p with low in LA after I took down quality like I described in my previous post.
Did even check the screen card stuff, still running with the nvida so it wasn’t the energy settings either.

Same issue here : 40+ FPS yesterday, 5 FPS today on Eternal Battleground, 60v60 players. It has nothing to do with the new content, or ppl trying the new WvW map, it’s a technical client-related issue. On the same hardware, no FPS drop on Windows with Bootcamp.
Yup, I have to agree. Running in windows through bootcamp seems to have benefited from the new optimisations, while OSX seems to have taken a massive hit.
Same for me. After the update the FPS are dropping until unplayable if there are bigger masses of players on the screen. Before I didn’t have major issues with that.
You guys all might want to post here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Official-state-of-skill-lag-and-server-optimizations/page/4#post3594318
So that they know the optimization isn’t universal and could actually be causing problems for a lot of players.
Same. I have a new iMac- got it two weeks ago. WvW is now totally unplayable.
Yea, yesterday was great. Today is completely unplayable.
Sadly I don’t expect much to happen from posts in this forum. Does the gem store still work?
Turning antialiasing on doubled the framerate. It is still unplayable but at least it is something.
At least we have an answer to “is there any mac qa team?”
No.
There isn’t.
Same here, dramatic drop when more than 5 or so people are around me.
Processor 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Same here FPS drop in this lastest patch today Was good untill this patch
It is so bad, this makes the game unplayable. Can we get a response from ANET?
ARRGG I’m so done with their stupid attitude. IF we get a response it is only because they don’t want us to post out of our subforum. And they will be like “bla bla we didn’t have problems. Don’t all jump on the Mac negative bandwagon” simple because they don’t know whats going on in this community. And if they respond to me now with the message “But we do read everything that you guys post here!” than that is just worse for me. Meaning they read it but think “Meh, let someone else deal with it, I can’t be bothered to respond (unless the gemstone breaks of course)”
Feels so frustrating because whatever you do, sending support tickets or ask for help on other sub forums. I know from experience from release that it won’t matter anyway…
Just adding my voice. I also saw a massive FPS drop today on my Macbook Pro. I noticed it in WvW and the Twisted Marionette event.
Sea of Sorrows
Add me to the “me too” list .. I have a high end 2013 iMac (3.4 GHz Intel Core i7/16GB) with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB option and I am getting 2-3 fps in WvW .. and its not due to “high player” population..
+1
same graphics settings as yesterday. Before today, it’d never go below 30 fps even in 50 vs. 50 zerg battles. today I was at 6-8 fps caused by 20 players in a marionette lane. Before the battle wasn’t horrible, but not great either (about 20 fps). when you’re alone the fps is pretty decent (40 fps), but every additional player seems to drop it like a meteor through a cardboard hut.
looks like I’m lucky that my LA isn’t that bad (20 fps). It’s mostly visual effects that hit me the hardest.
Interestingly, loading screens are also around 5 fps :P

FPS drop here as well on Mac OS X, I can’t do any world events without getting under 5fps and definitely not any WvW.
I know I have an older Mac Pro that’s “not supported”, but the latest patch seems to be effecting all Macs.
Mac info attached
Same here Macbook Pro NvidiaGTX 660 2GB, i7, 8 GB RAM, was running at 45+ FPS on medium settings pre-patch, after patch 1-2FPS on zerg events.
Hoped for some improvement today, but nope – tequatl was a pain. Please fix this soon, its no fun at all.
Same thing here for me.
The game doesn’t go further than 8fps whenever I’m playing.
I guess the solution would be to buy a PC or play a different game while they “fix” it.
Has anyone tried the SMC reset to see if that improved anything? I’m actually really surprised that antialiasing helped out also.

“SMC thing” – done
“deleting GW2 folder content and reinstall” – done
No improve at all.

No need to buy new hardware, you already own a computer that can run Windows. It’s not a satisfactory solution, but it’s better than nothing.

Bootcamp is the worst solution.
I’m not risking my data by partitioning my hard-drive to install windows on my mac.
NCsoft should hire a team to make this cider port work…
you can put bootcamp onto a 64 GB flash drive you get for $30
however, not all versions of windows will run on it (unlike mac OS, windows normally won’t boot from a flash drive, but it can be done)

Well, since it worked before, I really hope, that Mac Users are now not requiered to use bootcamp. They should fix it soon, its really painful, especially since there is so much boss and wvw content at the moment and I can only hardly participate.

This is all handled by Boot Camp Assistant and if there’s a risk to any of your data it aborts the process and will let you know it cannot be done. Not saying you should do this, but didn’t want you thinking that it’s a dangerous process.

It works only on MAC that doesn’t have DVD reader.
Bootcamp doesn’t risk your data at all :S
Also you should be doing regular backups of your mac anyway – time machine is great and it’s there for a reason. Use it!
I am finally rid of bootcamp with my new iMac .. having to reboot my Mac just to play a game was the worst did it with Warhammer and for a short while GW2.. very intrusive and annoying at best.. Anet should really fix this issue .. granted .. yes running GW2 under windows / bootcamp will give you the best performance with all the eyecandy on maximum .. but some of us would rather trade in the eye candy for the convenience of not having to reboot our machines to play.
Bootcamp is not a solution to problems with the Mac client. Some of us don’t want to repartition our drives to make space and risk having to restore from backups if something goes wrong. Some of us simply don’t want to buy, install, or use Windows. For me, the Mac client was a big draw for buying and supporting this game in the first place.

sorry, but wrong. I have 2 DVD drives and a flash drive with OS 10 and some utility software on it. For the flash drive, I just installed Mac OS 10 onto it like normal. Easiest to hold down option on startup to select it to start with. It does take a bit longer to start, but not bad. I’ve even been able to play GW2, which was on my internal, while booted off the flash drive, and copying my entire HD to a backup external.

agreed. I put up with it at first because GW2 was such a great game. But now that I’m less awed by it, I’m more likely to start up bioshock than restart the computer just to play a game.

Also I don’t currently own any Windows installer for my new iMac .. I am guessing Anet isn’t going to send out free copies of Windows 8.1 for all its Mac players to use with bootcamp .. and I am not going to pay $100 for a full licence of Windows just to play one $50 game..
Unplayable as soon as there are a few people around me in wvw I drop below 5fps … wtf
I have the same problem in PvP. Fine everywhere else in PvP, but when I go into a big fight, my fps drops to 20 fps. It’s not unplayable, but it is still quite annoying.
So I’m glad it wasn’t just my mac
No matter what settings I use, I get terrible fps. Roaming around alone I get ~20 fps, ~5-15 fps if there is another player anywhere near me, or a completely unplayable ~1-10 fps if that person (pve or wvw) casts a spell. I’ve tried resetting my PRAM/SMC and gfxCardStatus with no positive results.
Running:
MacBook Pro Retina Early 2013
2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
OS X 10.9.1
I was just in WvW, with the client set to BEST PERFORMANCE, I had 10fps.
MacBook Pro Retina
2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
OS X 10.9.1
I guess I should chime in with my specs and whatnot as well:
Macbook Pro Retina, Oct 2013
2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
OS X 10.9.1 (13B3116)
Always had mediocre but playable framerates, 30-50 fps. New patch tanked everything. 2-3 fps in wvw with only a handful of people on lowest settings. It is unplayable, worse than playing on my old computer from an external harddrive.
Can staff tell us if this is even going to be looked at? Is the mac client truly dead in the water as many are saying?
After 3 months of test , this is the result of the patch on mac? I lost 95% of fps, at present the game is unplayable before the patch from 30-50 fps with good graphics resolution to 4 now with poorer resolution. Yet even Mac users have paid for the game.
I encourage people to also keep the few threads over in the GAME BUGS forum afloat so the devs see it.. we don’t even know if they even bother looking in the mac forums anymore
Same here. I feel like I am in a tri faction at Stonemist Castle everywhere..
