FPS help
Is it in crowded places/events/WvW where you get those drops? To which values?
What are exactly those “recommended” settings, especially character model limit/quality, shadows and animations?
Posted the same post yesterday and I managed to get some results.
The first thing I noticed is that when I launch GW2 my GPU jumps to 100%, so make sure while you are playing on your PC to have only GW running, no internet, skype or anything in the background.
Second, go to this page
http://www.coderbag.com/programming-c/disable-cpu-core-parking-utility
And get unpark your CPU, go on youtube if you don’t trust me and see how other people do that.
The day after I updated my drivers even though I updated them like a month ago, there was a new updated so I had to do it anyway.
From WvW impossible play (almost 0 fps) I got to 50-60, which knows to drop to 30 when there is a large blob vs blob.
Tomorrow I will reinstall the game and I hope I will get even better results.
Hope I helped, Good luck!
Unplayable in WvW – The problem is in your CPU and your ram. Despite the 6 cores of the FX-6300, per-core performance is still very weak that in CPU bound cases even an i3 can beat it.
Also 4GB ram these days can feel as a drop in the ocean for some games, your OS (depending on how many background activities are going on) is already taking resources, let’s base this on about 600mb. That leaves 3.4GB for GW2 which honestly is not much especially in crowded places. When that 3.4gb is almost filled up, the system will start moving some background processes to virtual memory – which means it will use the hard disk and it’s a lot slower than the ram and in turn create stuttering in the game.
As Engelsstaub’s suggestion: character model limit/quality, shadows and animations will help a lot in crowded areas.
Your GTX 1060 is good however it’s overkill for GW2, but certainly not wasted money.
I hate to break it to you, but if you want more stable framerates in GW2 you should consider a better CPU and at least 8GB ram (although 16GB is starting to become the normal nowadays).
For a CPU I would suggest the new AMD Ryzen, depending on your budget a 1500X or 1600X will do the job, they are very good for gaming and with the multithreading they are often better than intel cpu’s of the same price.
Did get my PC updated with new hardware and now I get FPS drops on recommended settings all the time. I upgraded so I can play with better graphics..
What I got was:
Corsair 2GB (1×2GB) DDR3 CL9 1333Mhz VALUE SELECT (2 of them)
AMD FX-6300 6C 3.5 GHz Black Edition 8MB
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB SC Gaming
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0It all got installed, every driver updated, got windows 10 from 7 but still it gets lagspikes on recommended settings. It is unplayable in WvW
Do I need to upgrade something more? Not enough of something?
upgrade from what? fx-6300 is almost half a decade old. You should be buying ryzen from AMD which is 40-50% better

“Should”…Yes,also realize not everyone has that amount of money laying around.Im sure this is the best he could afford right now.
Look into overclocking your cpu which can def help increase some fps since gw2 is completely cpu bound. Also make sure you have Character limit and Character quality both to Low in the options menu, theyre incredibly heavy on cpu’s and depending the setting you use now you can gain 10 – 15 fps from that in zergs.
