FPS improvement Suggestions

@Zelxin
This thread would answer most, if not all, your questions. Basically, the same with what everyone else have said.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Thats GW2’s thread optimisation at work. It requirs a beafy cpu to run WvW and LA smooth.
You wont see a cpu max out in overall usuage becouse once GW2 maxes out one of its threads thats it, the game slows down. GW2 has like 50 odd threads it uses for various operations ..2 to 3 of them are the main ones used for performance. When 1 caps out thats when it bottlenecks…any other threads that are not capped out just add to the overal usuage your CPU indicates to you via task manager.
Bassicaly the math to work out at what overall CPU usuage will be when GW2 start to max out is this:
100/No. threads x 2= Lowest possible %
100/No. threads x 3 = Likely %
In your case your CPU has 6 threads.
So its
100/6 × 2 = 34 %
100/6 × 3 = 50 %
Meaning once your CPU reaches 34% usuage you can expect FPS to possibly start to drop. at 50% and up it is HIGHLY likely you fps will drop. When this happens you GPU usuage will also drop UNLESS there is alot of special effects going on to tax your GPU.
the way around this is simple but hard to swallow for some.
OC your current CPU
Buy a new beafier CPU & OC
Wait for a possible optimisation patch (dont hold ur breath)
If you decide to upgrade do note that becouse GW2 is heavily influenced by single thread performance… AMD cpu’s dont fair to well compared to Intel, its also possible GW2 isnt optimized for AMD vs Intel. AMD can still make do when highly OC’d ..but not as good as Intel.
Turning certain grpahics option off or lowering them may help you. I.e Shadows. Relfections, and LOD.

Turn reflections off, that helps with the camera panning issue, also turn Shadows off in WvWvW it will help the CPU perform a lilttle better. But most likelly game will just perform pretty bad in cities and WvW saddly.
1. I think we all get the first time turnaround stutter when loading into a new area. I just do a 360 each time and then I’m glass. I’m not sure there is a way around it.
2. 3770 and 3820 Intels are still 50% faster then what you have and this is a cpu based game. Both your video cards for GW2 totally sufficient, are you interested in selling the 470?
3. The proc % of use, don’t be fooled by that. It’s how multicores work, it’s not like the chip is idling at 60-80% free, the % is spread amongst all cores. This one is a common issue understanding. Those puppies are giving you their all.

haha i do that too
anyways, that gave me the most performance boost:
-turning off reflections in-game, ~15FPS more
-turning off aero-peek while running GW2, ~5FPS
-set “texture filtering – quality” to “performance” at the nvidia-cp, ~8FPS more
-overclocked GPU’s core clock at about 15% and memory clock at about 10%, ~5FPS
honestly, i can’t say if anything of that would help you, since your got a complete different system than i’ve got
any other attempts to increase my performance failed miserably (reinstalling GW2 and win7, OC’ed CPU to 3,8 then 3,9 then 4 and 4,1GHz, etc…the usual stuff)
usually, games wouldn’t need high-end CPU’s and GPU’s or high-end in general, unless you want to show-off your super awesome pointless 600+FPS

1. If you feel comfortable with computers, you should know if your system is running well, so installing game and o/s shouldn’t be needed. This is the Internets solution to seemingly everything, that’s a lot of BS to me.
2. Oh yes, this game wants all of your cpu, no other game has been this kind of demanding. I have one more Dual to update to a nice i5 for Christmas, the mouse is smooth, but the world feels like it strobes in comparison to my i7’s.
Good for you on picking up decent FPS %‘s, on my Dual, it’s almost like nothing affects it.
Not saying this will work for everyone, but I was running Windows 8 Pro and was having slide-show screen fun with an i7 3770 w/H100, 16g ram, Z77 mobo, 40meg net connection, 800w psu, etc… I rolled my OS back to Win 7 Pro and POOF-BE-GONE my fps woes were gone. Limiter off and am getting upwards of over 100 fps pretty constantly, and around 50fps in wVw.
So, if you have Win8 and are experiencing lag, have tried the fixes to no avail, it’s worth a shot.
