I am consistently getting 25 FPS in completely deserted zones with my settings set to low. I feel like I should be getting better frame rates, but I am not very familiar with GW2 technical quirks.

So I am posting my specs, and hopefully I can get some advice that may help.

Desktop (all in one Dell … monitor and computer components in one unit)
i7 3770S @ 3.10 mgh 65 w
Nvidia Geforce GT640m graphic
Intel 4000 integrated graphics
64 bit
16 gb ram

I am running windows 10, but I could roll back to 8. I am running the 32 bit client.

Are there some steps I can take to help this a bit? I am not expecting to get 120 fps in big battles or anything, but I would love to get an increase here.

Thanks in advance!

That sounds a lot like an issue I had not too long ago (like a week ago or so). My FPS were not too high to begin with (would cap at 30) but it would end up plummeting down to 7 or 6 FPS which was absolutely horrible to look at! I never really found a cause for it but what seemed to fix it was reinstalling the client.

I have a feeling its your 640m GPU. They aren’t gaming cards at all. They’re there to ensure smooth HD video playback, not rendering.

That machine wasnt really meant for gaming . I haven’t seen an All-in-One id consider decent for gaming for the price. Your CPU, which Gw2 relies on more than GPU, is still nice but the bottleneck is further down the line: The Graphics Processing Unit.

Here’s a comparison between a ~$100 Nvidia 750 Ti,which id barely consider adequate for Gw2, and your 640m

If you scroll down to the middle section, labeled “differences”, that’s where you’ll find the meat and potatoes of the information.

  • Texture Fill rate: 82.64 GigaTexel/s vs 16 GTexel/s
  • Pixel Fill rate: 16.32 GigaPixel/s vs 4 GPixel/s
  • floating-point performance: 1,728 GigaFLOPS vs 384 GFLOPS

And that’s a low-end gaming GPU. The differences are even more stark when you compare something more mid-level like an Nvidia GTX 960 or AMD r9 380. Both of which can be had for <$200…but this does you no good because it’s an all-in-one PC and the parts are, for the most part, soldered into the Motherboard.

That’s the answer I expected but was not wanting to hear, lol. I don’t think I would bother attempting to upgrade this thing. I may just give it to the wife and have my son build a decent rig.

Thank you for your reply.
