Hey everyone, I just recently installed guild wars 2, and i’m getting weird FPS issues and spikes.

This is strange to me because all of my drivers are updated (graphics, windows, etc) and my computer is a very high performance computer. However, i’m getting around 40 frames on high settings, and its spiking. Now, before incoming “lower your settings” here is a DX Diag of my computer.

The game is installed on a 256gb solid state as well and i’m running a gtx 670. I’ve run all checks on drives and i obviously don’t have a single issue with any other game I run with these kind of specs. My friend has a similar computer, but weaker in ram/cpu/and gpu power overall, but is getting twice my frames on the same settings. A little help anyone?

That is normal ir CPU will struggle in GW2 due it is a single thread application, u can halp it by reducing the shadows and reflections it will be an instant 20+ FPS. Those are very CPU dependant options, other than that, reducing any other graphical options won’t give u any performance boost. My recomendations is turn shadows and reflection down to a point u feel comfortable with, and just max out everything else.

don’t listen to rampage… I have an i7 3770 with a gtx 580 and 8gb ram and I have everything on high with native sampling and I get 40fps at the lowest and 120fps standing still.

you must have some weird issue like some antivirus or something holding you back.

hope you get it figured out.

I looked more at your post… I don’t see a video card… are you using the intel integrated?

No, i mentioned i’m running a gtx 670. In a dx diag report that is reported under the display section, which i didn’t include. It’s there and all of that. I run malware antibytes, but how that would throttle gpu settings only on guild wars 2 is beyond me, so i’m almost positive that isn’t it.

And as i mentioned before rampage, my friend has an almost identical computer, but weaker. He still runs an I5 3570 though, and he gets double my frames, so none of that makes sense either.

And for the sake of fairness, i checked without my anti-virus, despite how silly it sounded, and still the same performance.

This is likely going to be asked as well, so i’ll reiterate, my gpu is plugged in its x16 slot (i dont know who would plug it somewhere else…). My drivers for nvidia are updated, and my settings are set at as the sticky ask. Like i’ve mentioned, I can run max on any game, and certainly more taxing games, and weaker computers are performing better than mine for some reason. I also have no heat issues, i’ve checked everything.

It all comes down to where u measure ur FPS, look at this video, u will see a comparison between ur processor and AMD CPU, try compare ur pc in lion’s arch to this. U will see the FPS spiking like crazy it is normal, whoever says this dosn’t happen is delusional. Sure if u get lower performance than this there is a problem with ur hardware, probably a power setting or something like that it can hit GW2 performance pretty bad. just go Lion’s arch get the same setting this guys has and make a similar run to compare, then come back here with a feedback, i’m here to help.

Check ur GPU usuage. If its maxing out, ur settings are to high. If its not, then its ether ur CPU getting in the way in the particular area ur in ingame. or a driver issue.

If u want to try a different driver i sugest 306.97

Check ur with ur freind make sure u have the EXACT same ingame settings and r in the same area ingame for FPS comaparisons. Also check what driver he is using, and at what clock speed he has his CPU running at.
